Folks, There is a candidates forum in Norfolk tonight featuring both local candidates and then our State Senate candidate, Peter Smulowitz and his opponent, Richard Ross. I just had a call from the vice chair of the local Norfolk DTC. She seemed great but is working in a committee that is apparently both very demoralized and vastly outnumbered locally by Repubs and conservative independents. They have had rabid turnouts by Brown supporters at every turn and very little participation by Democrats. She is trying hard to find some folks to help add some numbers tonight to support Peter Smulowitz. She says that the Repubs will be there in force and that during Scott Brown's run for Senate, they were flooded with outside Republicans as well. Plus she mentioned that even the local papers won’t publish letters about the campaign.
This is the only forum I am aware of at this point with Smulowitz and Ross. I think it would be great if we could get a big turnout for this. The event is in Norfolk at King Philip Middle School at 18 King Street. The doors open at 6:30, which means we need people to be there no later than 6:15. We need as many signs as we can bring as well…
Let’s rally to support Peter Smulowitz tonight and this overmatched DTC that wants people to see that Democrats are passionate and broadly supported too!

p>John Tierney will have a tough time.

p>Tonight the overwhelming mandate against fairly a modest (and needed) prop 2 1/2 override – if taken as a rough indication of voter sentiment — does not look good.

p>In Groveland we are meeting one last time before STATE convention this Thursday—6 dems –NO New members on board yet.

What a wild evening, too! Hailstones. Double rainbows. And seeing Richard Ross stand in front of a room of voters going, “I totally bombed” with his mouth opening and closing like a gold fish in a gold fish bowl.

I read a report from one of the local papers last night, but yours is much more informative; thanks.

With cost cutting, and the diminished reporting staffs, our first person reports on news and opinion sites are, I believe, more and more important.

But with the loss of good news gathering organizations, we fall more and more into the vacuum of not having a reality-basis from which public discourse can proceed.
<
p>Everything becomes “that’s your opinion.” Sigh.
<
p>In any case, thank you for going and reporting so thoroughly. I’m certain I would not have had the stamina to do both in one night.
