Recently we heard about an ill-conceived and poorly-timed million dollar ad buy by the Republican Governors Association attacking Tim Cahill. A curious way to spend money this early in the cycle.
And now (DGA press release, no link), we read the following:
In a stunning piece of news, the Republican Governors Association is promising $10 million – a third of their cash on hand – to long-shot and down-in-the-polls New York gubernatorial candidate Steve Levy.
With 37 governors races in 2010, this $10 million commitment – confirmed by Steve ‘Majors’ Levy himself to the New York Post – must come as a serious shock to every single Republican gubernatorial candidate who is not 30 points down in the polls or a former Democrat who just became a Republican for the sake of an election.

Levy will be in for a shock come September when he realizes that the RGA’s “commitment” was fraudulent. There’s no way they spend $10 million in that race, unless they truly are idiots.

p>The $1 million attacking Cahill, while early in the campaign, at least makes sense since they have to drive him down to ensure that his fund-raising doesn’t pick up. But Levy has no chance in New York unless Cuomo announces out of the warmness of his heart that actually he thinks David Patterson is a wonderful governor, Patterson agrees and gets back in, and no other Democrats challenge him. But against Cuomo? Let’s hope the RGA keeps thinking Levy has a chance.
