From the Gloucester Daily Times:
A group of Gloucester public school students’ parents today filed a lawsuit aimed at overturning what they allege was an illegal approval of a local charter school that will harm the public school system and the majority of its students.
Scheduled to open in September, the Gloucester Community Arts Charter School would divert funds from the public school system, push up public school class sizes and possibly force the closing of one of the city’s five elementary schools, the suit argues.
The plaintiffs, comprised of 15 local parents, described the approval process as political manipulated and a “blatant violation” of the Board of Education’s own rules and regulations regarding the charter award process. They also cited an investigation by the state’s Inspector General, who concluded that the charter “should be deemed void.”
