Sorry, can’t link to this article because you have to subscribe to the Boston Globe or pay to view its archives. September 28, 1992, the Globe published an article by Aaron Zitner entitled “Ex-UMass conservatives eye State House,” about Guy Glodis’s college antics at U. Mass.
One of the more interesting stories is about Guy’s Talk Show, in March 1991. The event, according to Zitner, “was designed for conservatives and liberals to debate the Persian Gulf war and the Lesbian Bisexual Gay Alliance’s loss of appointed seats on the Board of Governors. Glodis himself participated in the debate, sprinkling it with sexual comments and raging about ‘radical wacko weirdos’ in campus politics.”
And here’s the most telling tidbit from Zitner’s article: “Admiring a lesbian panelist, Glodis jokingly introduced her to the audience as a porn-show ‘queen’ and said: ‘Come on, with a body like that, you can’t be bashful.’ Later, he queried the woman, Laura Silver, about her sexual habits: ‘What do you think about toys, animals? . . . How about group sex? . . . What do you consider an outrageous sexual act? . . . What is your ultimate fantasy?'”
Does anyone really believe that the only person ever banned from the South Boston St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast for his outrageous behavior has changed all that much since 1991?
All you liberals listed as Guy Glodis’s supporters on Guy’s campaign flier — at least those of you who really are endorsers and not fraudulently listed by the Glodis Campaign — ask yourself if supporting Guy Glodis for Auditor is consistent with your values.
And nobody has to ask Guy what his ultimate fantasy is, ‘cuz we know it’s sitting in the State Auditor’s seat with all those jobs that he can hand out. The real shame, however, is Glodis’s support from purported progressives who are poised to give him at least 50% + 1 at this weekend’s Democratic Convention.

First of all, “frat boy shit” and sexually harassing a lesbian on television are two drastically different things, in my opinion.
<
p>Secondly, it’s not just this one instance – are you missing the pattern? Lesbian jokes in college, Muslim jokes in the legislature. Jokes that cross the line in Southie. HE HASN’T CHANGED!!!!!!
yellowdogdem says
That is certainly a valid point, Ernie, but there is a serious question as to whether Guy Glodis has ever risen above that frat boy mentality. For example, as sophmoric and crude as the St. Patick’s Day Breakfast in South Boston can be at times, only one person has ever been banned from the event for behavior that was too offensive — Guy Glodis. That was in 2002. How much did Guy mature between 1991 and 2002? Is there any reason to believe that Guy has grown up since then? What about his appearance on Fox 25 this year where he boasted about being banned from the breakfast?
<
p>But my post wasn’t even aimed at you, Ernie. It was clearly directed at the purported progressives in the Democratic Party, especially those who are elected officials, who are supporting Glodis. Why? What am I missing?
eb3-fka-ernie-boch-iii says
<
p>Huh?
<
p>Anyway, I agree that the latter stuff is relevant.
<
p>I never thought Glodis was so bad to be banned from the South Boston breakfast.

sexist and homophobia comments?
<
p>If I don’t agree with everything the gay lobby or NOW wants I am a homophobe and a sexist, is that right?
smadin says
I mean, I can tell you how to find them, that’s easy – click right there on your name underneath your comment, and then click on the “comments” tab – but the fact that you evidently don’t, or pretend not to, recognize that putting a “fag” joke in your comment signature is homophobic suggests that similarly you won’t, or will pretend not to, recognize sexism and homophobia elsewhere in your comments.
<
p>I don’t think you’re homophobic and sexist because your stated policy positions don’t line up with one checklist or another. I think you’re homophobic and sexist because you’ve got a long history of making comments that indicate that you hate women and gay people.

I don’t want to further derail this thread, and I haven’t got the time right now to inventory your comment and posting history. However, pretty much everyone who’s spent any length of time here at BMG knows precisely what I mean, and I don’t really believe you don’t; you’re just excited for an opportunity to play the victim.
<
p>(I also don’t particularly expect that my pointing out the frequency of objectionable content in your comments would do any good, in the sense of your actual behavior, because I don’t believe you’re arguing in good faith on this topic in the first place; but perhaps it would, at least, help get through to the strangely high number of people on here who seem to have convinced themselves you’re “basically a good guy.”)

I don’t think there is any concensus that he gets the nomination. I know he’s worked his county for votes hard, and the Lowell delegation, but that was to assure himself of the 15%.
<
p>I do not think he thinks he will win the nomination, but he surely will win the primary. With all the other races on tap this year, who is going to donate to someone who doesn’t even have $50k in the bank, while her opponent has over $600k?

Suzanne Bump promises to make Mike Lake “Vice-Auditor)?
yellowdogdem says
I predict a big win for Glodis on the first ballot. Glodis has an incredible array of party hacks and even liberal party hacks behind his campaign. I can’t figure it out myself. When I ask people, they tell me “well, Guy asked me first, a long time ago.” Huh? Doesn’t make sense to me. And the liberals, especially the purported progressive elected officials — and you know who you are — are just shocking to me. Some of us won’t forget the next time you come to us asking for our support, pretending to be progressive. Myself — I won’t be afraid to ask the question — if you are so progressive, how in the hell could you have supported Guy Glodis? I’m looking forward to the answers.
<
p>Bump — no surprise, my choice for Auditor — should take second place, with over 15%, but there’s some interesting dynamics. We’ve all seen Glodis’s supporters here — Stryker57 and South Shore Dem — who pretend to support Lake even though they’re hard-core Glodis supporters. That’s getting some play out in the field, and putting Bump at some risk. Lake and Glodis supporters are both claiming that: (1) Lake is the true progressive; and (2) Lake is in danger of not making the ballot, so be a nice guy (or gal – that’s a pun) and throw Mike Lake a vote. What a surprise that two guys would team up together like that against the third, female, candidate. So there are lots of natural Bump supporters who are wavering, trying to game the system, hedging their bets. My advice to everyone is simple — vote for the best candidate, the person you want to see as Auditor, the person who’ll best represent the Democratic Party in November.
<
p>
jumbowonk says
From what I’m hearing, Mike Lake is coming in second, and Bump will struggle to get on the ballot. Now the question is whether Glodis will do better in a 2-way or 3-way race. I think in a 2-way race, we’ll probably have enough anti-Glodis people to beat him. In a 3-way, he’ll probably win easily.
<
p>On another note, if Glodis wins, I may have to vote for a Republican for the first time ever (though I have only been voting since 2008, so not that long of a time)
davesoko says
I humbly suggest that progressives should consider voting Green as a protest if Glodis is the Democratic nominee. As mentioned in another diary, the Greens have fielded a candidate for this race who seems somewhat credible.
truebluelou2 says
Boston Counselor Rob Consalvo has endorsed Bump. Most people think of him as a proxy for the mayor. Mayor Menino is going to throw his people behind Bump… add that to the administration’s people.

p>She’ll do well.

…is a good old fashion take-down by the Globe…if they see fit and given the traditionally tepid coverage of down ticket races in a primary, that ain’t happening. Suzanne won’t have the money to both sell herself (which she needs to do first) and take Glodis down.
<
p>But Glodis will have a problem with Connaton (sp) IF she runs a smart campaign… at this point in the game, I’m voting for anybody but Glodis in the general…I consider myself a koolaid drinking Democrat…but I don’t drink the poison Glodis represents.
truebluelou2 says
I’ll drink kool aid, not poison!

p>Can’t wait to use it this weekend.
davesoko says
I’m voting for the Green candidate. Humbly suggest this as an alternative to the Romney-appointee Connaghton.
pogo says
…as I said, I’m on the “Anybody but Glodis” team. Voting Green (or writing in yourself or Mickey Mouse) may allow you to say “i didn’t vote for Glodis”, but it pretty much has the net result of electing him Auditor, and that would be very, very bad for the Democratic Party in the long run. So, if Glodis is nominated, we have to take a bullet for the team and accept that a “Romney-appointee” as Auditor is way better for both our party and our state, than Guy Glodis.
