State Democratic party chair, friend of BMG, and all around good guy John Walsh suffered a mild heart attack over the weekend.
Walsh underwent a series of tests over the weekend and is resting comfortably today and doing fine, Stacey Monahan, the party’s executive director, said in a statement.
“Doctors at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth believe Walsh experienced a mild heart attack. He is expected to be back on the organizing and grassroots trail in a few days,” she said.
Our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery go out to John.
Please share widely!
“He is expected to be back on the organizing and grassroots trail in a few days….” unreal…

p>John caught a break Saturday with a huge (and survivable) warning shot…forget the organizing and campaign trail, put health first! John! Take care of YOURSELF first! Get yourself healthy! Campaigns and politicians come and go…there is only ONE you!
We activists can pick up the slack. Hell, I just heard something about Kate Donoghue going full time on the volunteer front…
<
p>John we love you and you had better be around to help us kick serious butt for years to come!
You are right. Johhn’s health needs to be the priority. But I am only SEMI-retired.
<
p>I continue to work two days per week on the day job. Let’s talk soon! Kate
Doesn’t mean you aren’t full time on the volunteer trail.
<
p>You forget, Kate, I know you really well! đŸ™‚
HLPeary is right. This warning is going to save your life. So many don’t get one or ignore the warning.
<
p>It’s true that life(and politics) can be so stressful that it will keep a perpetual supply of nasty hormones running through your veins.
<
p>There is more you can do to curb this in addition to prescription medicines. Ask your doctor about taking Vitamin C. It’s the golden vitamin and has many health benefits. A glass of OJ a day isn’t enough. But be sure to discuss with your doctor what the right amount is and the best way to get it.
<
p>I hope you feel better soon.

So, first order of business…reduce the stress! I know it’s hard in politics, but who cares?? John is too important to us!
that John’s weight likely contributed to the heart attack. Obesity does that.
<
p>We love you John — and we want you to be healthy. I hope you redouble your effort to get your weight under control — your family deserves you for as long as possible.
Though I am NOT on the fat-is-just-fine bandwagon, fat is not the biggest indicator of heart health problems. Stress is. The release of adrenaline (flight or fight response) without the use of the fatty acids released under stress (lack of exercise to burn it all off, in other words) leads to heart disease.
<
p>Type A personalities have it the worst, and often times appear thin and healthy to boot.
<
p>Now the prescription is such (exercise, eating healthy, increasing good fatty acids/cholesterol and decreasing the bad) that it almost inevitably leads to weight loss, but in other words, don’t assume thinness is automatically healthy.
<
p>It is true that middle fat (fat around your stomach) is the most metabolically active, likely to be released during stress (hip fat is the “long term storage for famine” fat), but a small spare tire is as likely to release these fatty acids as a larger spare tire. đŸ™‚
<
p>The best prescription? Daily exercise, even just a 20-30 brisk walk or time on a stationary bike, will do a LOT for a person. Push the heart to build up its strength (cardio). Lower levels of exercise to burn out the fat out of your veins. Etc etc.
I don’t mean to seem like I know what I’m talking about. LMAO. I suppose my Foods and Dudes health/food class in college along with general interest in health all these years makes it easy to rattle off some claptrap.
<
p>Anyway, speaking of exercise, I’m late for getting to my own workout. So if you’ll excuse me…
<
p>And hmm, I wonder if I can convince Mr. Lynne to get off the brand new couches and come with??
merely that being obese is a leading indicator — and every single medical literature points it out. We all know it. John Walsh is always going to have stress — it’s part of who he is, what he does, and what he must do. Of course he should work to control that with meditation, planning, breaks, etc, but he’ll never be stress free.
<
p>He can, however, control his weight. He can drop 20, 50, even 100 pounds. His risk of another heart attack almost certainly drops with every pound he loses, and if he were to safely lose a significant amount of weight, I’m sure his doctor would agree that his chance of another heart attack would decrease substantially.
when people talk about someone else’s weight problems, on a well-trafficked public website of all places, especially after they suffered a serious health trauma. Believe it or not, people who struggle greatly with weight issues generally know it. Now, can we please just wish John well and leave his health decisions to he and his doctors?
John is a tireless worker. Rest and get better. I know you consider every Democrat your brother or sister, but you need to be there for your real family.
<
p>Here’s looking a FULL recovery. Fortunately a man like John has lots of friend and family to pitch in.
you’re an inspiration to us all and have taught us well as a state party. We all wish you the very best and hope you get well soon.
