This can be done in three simple steps. If you are already an organizer you can skip the first step!
Here’s the information from the campaign…
1. Become an organizer by creating an account online or calling our office at 617-367-2010 and signing up.
2. Confirm ten new supporters. You can do this online or by having them sign pledge cards. Make sure you get the cards back to the campaign HQ before July 31st.
3. The campaign will track your progress and announce the winners of the organizer challenge the first week of August.
Ten new supporters. You could pick one person out of your address book per day, or you could just go to a barbecue this weekend and get them all at once. Recruit people however you think is best, but it is crucial to our campaign that you get started now so we can head into the fall with a strong base of support.
Too busy with other things to set aside some time to do this? Do it while you are talking with people doing whatever else you are doing. I don’t want to be specific about what I was doing the other night. Let me just say that I signed up the bartender as a supporter.
The main thing is to do it!

DISCLOSURE: Now that I’m semi-retired, I’m volunteering A LOT with the Patrick-Murray campaign. Anyone surprised?
what he meant by this statement in today’s Boston Globe story about Deval’s stance on illegal immigration…
<
p>
<
p>Is Deval governing based on Scripture? Does Deval understand how Scripture may treat many other “current day” issues and will he follow it then?
so I don’t think you want to govern by quoting Scripture, unless you are simply going to pick and choose what you want (and I don’t think it works that way).
<
p>When it comes to crime should we “turn the other cheek”? I think we can have a society which may voluntarily act according to Scripture on a personal level but not a government.
…even she doesn’t have walk-in priveleges to the Corner Office. Besides, Governor’s events are public; why don’t you come sometime and ask him yourself. It is both Scriptural AND American to be inclusive of everyone. The verses used as excuses to do otherwise that you allude to in a subsequent comment are not representative of the overall message.
And when I do I’ll also ask him why the “rosy” news of the jobs increase in MA (thanks to tourism) hasn’t helped the people in need…
<
p>Story today
There have been a lot of shenanigans with credit and mortgages lately that have forced people, not necessarily all jobless, into bankruptcy.
<
p>Also, you’ll be pleased to know that tonight on TV I’m finally hearing something about the Charlie Rangel ethics situation from someone other than you.
STEP 1 – Get Ready
Start by writing down five names of people who are “easy” calls – people you know well and people who are likely to be with Governor and the LG. Start with the people who are closest to you, friends and family. The goal is to talk with people who are eligible to vote, anywhere in the Commonwealth.
<
p>STEP 2 – Start Dialing
Make that first call. You don’t need a script to talk to Mom or your son or your closest friends. The main thing you need to ask is, “Can we count on your vote for Deval Patrick and Tim Murray in November?” Make a note on the call sheet about the result of your call. Try to get an e-mail address for you to use to keep your voters informed. (The campaign will not use this address.) Leave a message if possible. Keep on going though at least five calls.
<
p>STEP 3 – Challenging and Rewarding Calls
Now, it’s time to get to some of the more challenging conversations. What is life without challenges? The Governor speaks about talking with people who are not automatically with us. Make a few of those calls. Look for common ground. You know what will resonate with your friends and acquaintances. The captain will have talking points for you. Call in favors. Tell people you get points. Do whatever it takes. Get that vote.
<
p>STEP 4 – Keep Dialing
As you have conversations keep writing down the names of people you are calling and the results. While you are talking be thinking of other people you can call: friends, classmates, colleagues. Ask people you are calling for suggestions. Have conversations and keep dialing.
He’s been doing this sice late March. Way to copy and thusly flatter Baker.
This has been key to Deval and Tim’s stragety since early 2009. If Charley Baker started this in March….

<
p>Your post states that Charley Baker has “been doing this” since late March. Lacking clarity as to the atencedent of this, I took it to refer to the general concept of asking volunteers to find other supporters.
<
p>It’s not the kind of campaign strategy that gets a lot of press coverage but the above quote is from an early February 2010 article that alludes to the long standing effort. By February, 1600 people had signed on.
