Wendy Murphy has a column in the Patriot Ledger rehashing the inconsistencies in Republican Congressional candidate Jeff Perry’s version of how he handle the supervision of a sexual predator when he was a police sergeant.
Buried in the column was an assertion that I was not aware of and, if true, the voters of the 10 Congressional District deserve some serious answers.
Murphy writes:
(Perry) reportedly asserted his right to remain silent in response to questions during legal proceedings. If everything he did was “by the book,” what “incriminating” information had to be shielded by the Fifth Amendment?
Perry took the 5th? OK, nothing wrong with that–when you’re involved in a criminal investigation, every American has the right to exercise their constitutional rights. No problem. I get that.
But we’re not talking about a criminal investigation today. We’re talking about sending someone to Congress and voters deserve to know IF Perry took the 5th with regards to this case. If he took the 5th, it certainly undermines Perry’s assertion that he did everything by the book.

And we can be sure Wendy Murphy knows that he took the Fifth Amendment because — ?

p>Forget about the taking the 5th as an issue, (but if true, it will be fatal for Perry), Wendy Murphy is a poster child for angry independents that flocked to Scott Brown and if she’s deserting him because this sexual abuse scandal–which Perry can’t seem to shake–then lots of independents won’t be supporting him.

When pressed on several inconsistencies, Perry tried to slink out by saying “that’s not my memory.” Wow Jeff, that’s gold!! I’m going to use that from now on at home: “Honey, I know you think you told me you didn’t want me to go golfing today, but that’s not my memory. You know I always try my best to listen when you talk to me.”

Instead of attacking him for invoking his constitutional rights how about we attack him for wanting to take away the constitutional rights of millions of Americans who, through no fault of their own, were born in this country but happen to have parents that immigrated here illegally. That is the more important constitutional question, this is just a bunch of tabloid rubbish not befitting a hack like Howie Carr let alone a real journalist. Nail him on the issues!
