that he doesn’t buy any of the “birther” stuff, and I think he said he found it offensive.

p>You guys are barking up the wrong tree trying to paint Charlie Baker as some radical. He’s not – all he talks about on the campaign trail are jobs, taxes, and cutting government waste. If you listen to what he says, I think you’ll conclude that he’s got some reasonable ideas.
<
p>Just as an example, tonight on Greater Boston he elaborated on the point he raised in the debate about Zipcar, a really great example of a “green” company that has flourished and met a demand for lots of MA residents looking for a hassle-free, inexpensive means of transportation. He commented on how the company has had to go through all kinds of red tape in order to be designated non-commercial when paying tolls. People rent these cars for an hour or two to go shopping, not for a whole week as if they were tourists on a vacation. There’s a big difference, and we as a state shouldn’t be penalizing residents for choosing a more economical and environmentally sound approach to meeting transportation needs in an already overcrowded urban setting.
<
p>This is an example of the level of discourse you can expect from Charlie Baker– he’s not in this race to stir up anti-Obama sentiment, or to stage publicity stunts when governors from states with completely different issues come to town. I could be wrong but he probably won’t make a big statement on the Ground Zero mosque– his focus is on how to help the residents of Massachusetts deal with the issues that matter to us.
<
p>Go ahead and challenge him, debate is a good thing, but you’ll do your readership a service if you stick to the real issues and don’t get detoured by a smear campaign.

What I’m worried about is the extent to which Baker is willing to give the real radicals on the right a pass, to pander to them, and even to encourage them, in order to get them to vote for him. Doesn’t speak well of him, IMHO.

I have driven on the turnpike in a real rental car, and paid the regular car rate.
<
p>The legislature should pass a law saying that all cars and trucks for personal use pay the car rate.
<
p>If these people were overcharged it was wrong and should be corrected. But come on. It’s probably only a few bucks.
<
p>I have doubts that something like this really happened.
<
p>If it did, pass a law to reign in the overzealous toll collectors.
<
p>But, this state cannot take “tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts” right now. The budget is strained as it is, and you want to be able to invest in infrastructure for the future.
<
p>Also, Patrick has punished the greedy health insurance companies. There is no way that a Governor Baker would ever do that. It can help a lot if the governor can reign in certain big companies for the sake of the public.
