Richard D. Kahlenberg is a senior fellow at The Century Foundation, where he focuses on topics such as education, equal opportunity, and civil rights. Previously, he was a fellow at the Center for National Policy, a visiting associate professor of constitutional law at George Washington University, and a legislative assistant to Senator Charles S. Robb (D-VA). He is also a nonresident senior fellow at Education Sector. He is the author of the book Tough Liberal: Albert Shanker And the Battles Over Schools, Unions, Race, and Democracy.
Mr. Kahlenberg graduated from Harvard College in 1985 and from Harvard Law School in 1989. Between college and law school, he spent a year at the University of Nairobi School of Journalism as a Rotary Scholar.
A panel of education and policy experts will be in attendance to discuss the career and legacy of Albert Shanker, “a titan of the American Labor movement and of the world of public education.” Confirmed panelists include Paul Toner, Massachusetts Teachers Association; Deborah Gist, Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; and Joe Williams, Democrats for Education Reform.
This event is free and open to the public, however RSVP is mandatory.
