Young Democrats of Massachusetts Endorse Mac D’Alessandro for Congress
Organization pledges support to elect the progressive challenger
BOSTON – The Young Democrats of Massachusetts is proud to announce its endorsement of Mac D’Alessandro in the Democratic primary for the 9th Congressional District. The Primary takes place on September 14th.
D’Alessandro is endorsed by the Young Democrats of Massachusetts because his platform speaks to the needs and concerns of young people. As a Congressman, D’Alesandro will focus on creating good-paying jobs in our communities, keeping families at risk of foreclosure in their homes, and ensuring all people have access to a quality public education that equips them to succeed in the 21st century and closes the achievement gap.
“I’m proud to have the support of YDM in our grassroots campaign because they understand the importance of electing leaders who will stand up for real change. Whether it was voting against the health care bill that would have helped those under 26 access healthcare through their parents, or voting repeatedly in favor of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, Stephen Lynch has not been acting in the interest of the youth of this district.,” said D’Alessandro. “As Congressman, I will work every day to create a better country for the next generation, and I’m glad to have the YDM join me in our effort.”
D’Alessandro is challenging an incumbent Democrat who is anti-choice, and was the only member of the Massachusetts Congressional Delegation to vote against health care reform and continues to support funding the war in Afghanistan this year.
"There was a clear choice in front of us as we decided to make this pre-primary endorsement, and Mac D’Alessandro represents the future of the Democratic Party in Massachusetts. As a disappointed Lynch constituent, I know that Mac represents the values of our membership and am excited to get to work on the ground to ensure he is elected as my next Representative in Congress," said YDM Communications Director Kevin Gilnack.
Mac D’Alessandro brings to his campaign a history of commitment to his community and social and economic justice issues. As Program Consultant for Surdna, a national foundation, D’Alessandro helped organizations acquire critical funding to promote environmental justice and sustainable development. As Legislative Director for Greater Boston Legal Services, he made sure low-income workers had the job training and support they needed to succeed. D’Alessandro fought to protect hospital patients, vulnerable seniors and healthcare workers, as New England Political Director for the Services Employees International Union.
A long-time Massachusetts resident, Mac D’Alessandro is married to Jennie Mulqueen, an early childhood arts educator, and is the proud father of five-year-old Sophie and three-year-old Atticus. They make their home in Milton, where both Jennie and Mac teach Sunday School, and Sophie will be attending public school this fall.
The Young Democrats of Massachusetts is a partisan political organization with more than 1,700 members mobilized to create positive change across the Commonwealth. Our members are the leaders of today: Democrats under the age of 36 committed to getting Democrats elected and promoting progressive legislation. We are the future: now.
