Barry Lawton, the Boston schoolteacher running for State Representative in the Fifth Suffolk District (Dorchester/Roxbury), has racked up labor endorsements.
Barry has the backing of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO,

Boston Firefighters’ Local 718,
Boston Teachers’ Union,
Massachusetts Teachers’ Association,
American Federation of Teachers,
the Painters’ and Allied Trades Union,
Ironworkers’ Local 7,
SEIU Local 615,
SEIU Local 888, and
the Boston Carmen’s Union
As the Massachusetts AFL-CIO noted in its endorsement letter, “Barry Lawton is the candidate for working families. The Massachusetts AFL-CIO and union members across your district are supporting Democratic candidate Barry Lawton in the Primary Election on Tuesday, September 14.”
A teacher at East Boston High School, Lawton has also served on the boards of the Col. Daniel Marr Boys’ and Girls’ Club and the All Dorchester Sports League.
Lawton is opposed by perennial candidates Althea Garrison and Roy Owens, and Carlos Henriquez. All three of Lawton’s opponents ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 2009.
