Reality-based commentary on politics.

Joe Driscoll sure took it to the gutter with his shamefully negative and inaccurate mailings clearly designed to deceive voters about his opponents’ and his own record…correct me if I’m wrong Mr. Chinman but didn’t Rep. Joe Driscoll support Speaker DiMasi’s election? And didn’t he inflate his experience in the courts and his “success” in legislation? I must say I was surprised that Joe Driscoll would try to use the race card when he knew full well that Sen. Morrissey had actually testified against Sen. Wilkerson in the Grand Jury and helped the federal prosecutors get an indictment against a corrupt senator. Joe went pretty low to contort that one when he deliberately tried to make it look otherwise.
If he would distort the facts that much to deceive the voters what kind of criminal justice model would he be as District Attorney? It’s troubling to say the least.

p> I think you, Mr. Chinman, unlike Rep. Driscoll, are a good, solid prosecutor. But I know today the job of DA is not really about going into court to prosecute cases (ask Gerry Leone, Jon Blodgett, Joe Early or Bill Keating…they have good ADAs like you to go into court, they have far too many other administrative things they are responsible to do to run their offices)
<
p>That’s why Former AGs and DAs Scott Harshbarger and Frank Bellotti are supporting Michael Morrissey along with a host of judges and former District Attorneys…they know what today’s DA’s job entails…it’s nothing against your prosecutorial skills..it’s just a different job today.
<
p>I am working to elect Michael Morrissey, too. I agree with Harshbarger and Bellotti and the other law enforcement leaders on that point.

But I commend you, ADA Chinman, for running a clean issues-based campaign. You are a credit to the Bar.

I agree. Chinman has run a laudable campaign and offered some good ideas. Morrissey has also focused on the issues. My dismay was with Driscoll. I do not know Rep. Driscoll personally but people I respect told me he was a decent man and would run clean. Sadly, I see no evidence of that…I have no respect for pols who twist the truth into a lie to deceive voters and, worse still, pols who are willing to libel an opponent to do so. It’s everything we hate about politics.
<
p>Character assassination politics…It’s why good people don’t want to run for office. It’s why voter turnout is so low. It has become a dirty game no one wants to play because of low road pols. I love a rough and tumble campaign based on real issues and real debate, but the kind of crap Rep. Driscoll displayed this week is not worthy of any respect at all. The Boston Herald is with him…why am I not surprised?

Okay, your campaign annoyed the hell out of me by calling my cellphone but after watching the online debate I would have to say you deserve my active and serious consideration. Perhaps, I should have listened to the cellphone message… đŸ˜‰
<
p>Michael Chinman seemed to have a serious if not scholarly presentation of the responsibilities of the office of District Attorney. I am sure that if he is elected he would set a standard that other DA Offices would follow.
<
p>In addition, it is refreshing to see new faces such as yours and Mr. Coffey’s present themselves for consideration.
<
p>At this point, I believe Michael Chinman will have my vote for Norfolk County DA on Tuesday September 14.
