With just five weeks to the election, Republican Charles D. Baker has pulled even with Governor Deval Patrick in a gubernatorial race shaped by anti-incumbent sentiment and unusually high excitement among Republican voters, according to a new Boston Globe poll.
The poll results also suggest that independent Timothy P. Cahill is pulling voters equally from Baker and Patrick, raising questions about the conventional political thinking that his candidacy is undercutting Baker’s chance to defeat the governor in the Nov. 2 election.
In the Globe poll, taken last week, Patrick, a Democrat, won support from 35 percent of likely voters, compared with 34 percent for Baker, a statistical tie given the poll’s margin of error. Cahill, the state treasurer who left the Democratic Party last year, continued to lag far behind with 11 percent. Green-Rainbow candidate Jill Stein got 4 percent, and 14 percent said they remain undecided.
Don’t be concerned, it’s just a poll. And more importantly, it’s a poll which shows Baker even with Patrick so it must be wrong or flawed. Please go back to sleep and laugh about Charlie Baker’s mole, or bring up the big dig…
Message to Charlie, keep talking about…
– Gov Patrick not joining the ICE Secure Communities program (endangering MA resident’s lives)
– Gov Patrick just went on record again with the Boston Herald that he is in favor of in-state tuition for illegal immigrants (remember that when you write the next tuition check to the state)
– yes, Gov Patrick is still in favor of MA State Drivers license for illegal immigrants. (Governor, these people are breaking Federal laws).
The people will come out on Nov 2 and take back our government. BMGers believe election results are the only polls that matter and believe our “voices” are transferred to the people we elect. I hope they still feel this way when Republicans and conservatives begin speaking for BMGers.

did you sleep through the weekend or something? Bob’s front page post on this poll is already half-way down the page.

p>Are you OK?

JohnD doesn’t really care that this is old news. Simply adding his pithy comments to Bob’s post isn’t nearly as gratifying as typing a brandy-new diary title that possesses the full-throated ceremonial pomp and splendor of “Republican Charles D. Baker has pulled even with Governal Deval Patrick.” The only thing missing is Patrick’s middle initial and a link to the sound file of JohnD’s self-satisfied exhalation upon hitting the enter key.

I realize that I am held to a higher standard but I seem to recall many instances of multiple postings of current events. Bob posted on Sunday and I didn’t read it since many posting on the main page are boring. I posted on Monday (the same day the story was in the paper), the very next day but you want to mislead us my calling it “old news”.
<
p>I realize the headline for Monday’s Globe was the poll showing MA residents are in favor of cutting the sales tax to 3%, but I was busy on Sunday night and didn’t have time to post.
<
p>Either way, get over it.

this is from the same writer that was accusing BMG of being obsessed with Charlie Baker.
<
p>I think that was before discussions of Mr Baker provided a rich opportunity to taunt. Now with a favourable poll, BMG cannot have enough Charlie Baker.
<
p>Should the polls change directions, though, we can relearn the dangers of being obsessed with the governor’s race.

and an analysis of the recent poll showing this was actually good news for Gov Patrick.
<
p>Baker is still a long-shot in my estimation and I am doing whatever I can to support him. But of all the races this fall, that victory would make me the happiest to be a member of BMG. Maybe surpassing the Sen Scott Brown victory.
<
p>I’ve never felt so strongly about “Hope and Change”!

…at least he’d really have a disagreement with Patrick unlike his current commercials that cry out for fact-checking or at least clarification.
<
p>I’m sure I will see the election results as legitimate, but that doesn’t mean I won’t keep fighting to get my way the next time around.
