The last few days I’ve noticed whenever I try to comment on a post when browsing with Explorer I get an “error on page”. I can still rate comments and post an original diary. This happens regardless of which computer I’m on. I CAN comment if I’m browsing with Firefox. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone have any insight on this? This only became an issue this week.

Once they stopped supporting my ability to access my .mac email account (now mobileme) I went to firefox and have not looked back.
<
p>As Microsoft has become increasingly corporate their products have become increasingly less user friendly and purposely MAC unfriendly. So I avoid Microsoft products whenever I can. Oddly, I have had far fewer system problems since then.

I cut my teeth on Netscape way back when and have always been able to find a more stable and less hack-prone browser than IE (I use Firefox now). About the only need I have for IE is to run Windows Update on Windows machines that frankly aren’t getting much use anymore.

If you bought an iPhone and signed up for “mobileme” to sync contacts and stuff (which cost something like 100 bucks but seemed essential), but then didn’t use it when you learned that you had to move to a “me.com” email address, Apple has a surprise for you when your year long mobileme subscription is up and you decide not to renew.
<
p>First you will notice “error connecting to mobile me, wrong password” messages every time you start up your iPhone. Of course, it isn’t a “wrong password” it is that you declined to renew that useless account. So, you go and find the account somewhere in the iPhone account settings and delete the account. Next a box comes up asking if you want to delete all your “mobile me contacts” also. DON’T DO IT. It will delete ALL YOUR CONTACTS. It won’t warn you that you are deleting all your phone contacts, and it won’t give you a chance to get them back. If you call Apple, they will say “yeah, that’s what happens if you delete all your mobile me contacts, and they will direct you to an online documentation to “restore” your iPhone. DON’T DO THAT EITHER. That will delete all your music and apps and clear your phone. (Luckily I realized that in advance).
<
p>Next, you will open iTunes and try to restore your contacts by syncing your iPhone, which you have regularly used to add music and back up your apps to your iPhone. But then you will discover that syncing did not restore any contacts, because THE BOX TO SYNC CONTACTS IS NOT CHECKED BY DEFAULT.
<
p>Next, you will go on line and rant about it, because there is nothing else to do. Apparently Apple feels that they have no obligation to protect their customer’s contact list, that it is more important to legally protect themselves against any hint that they care about their customers. Assholes.

My boss somewhat tolerates my visiting BMG on the work computer, but would most likely go apeshit if I downloaded a web browser other than what’s already on the computer.

couple of days ago about commenting problems. I asked one of my favorite computer geeks about it today; he had no idea. When I googled the error message, I got info about the javascript error focused on the content provider’s end of things.
<
p>I’m using Firefox, but for some reason, it’s incredibly slow loading the pages.

I never use IE, I use FireFox. But as a professional software developer, the first thing I would want to know is precisely which version(s) of IE is/are causing this problem. I just brought up IE on my PC and the version (found via the “?”(help) menu) is given as 8.0.7600.16485. I have a 64-bit version of Windows with both a 64-bit and 32-bit version of IE. The 64-bit version shows the same version number, followed by ” 64-bit Edition.”
<
p>This is the sort of detailed info you need to explain why not all IE users are having this problem. Your Windows OS may have been updated recently, which may explain why the problem started happening in the last few days.

I just tried posting a comment here with the versions of IE specified above. Both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions failed, but with different error messages (down in the bottom panel). 64-bit gave “Error on Page.” 32-bit gave “javascript::void()”
<
p>I may not have the punctuation and capitalization right on the above error messages. I didn’t write them down.
<
p>I’m running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.

but I’m using IE 8. Same thing at work. Both have the same “js.effect” error.
michaelbate says
But it will probably still be IE8. However the version number (viewable from Help/About) will be different, larger than the bad version: 8.0.7600.16485. Very likely it will be something like 8.0.7600.16486 or 8.0.7601.nnnn

I tried reloading in IE8, fiddling with cookies and reloading the page, and nada. I have automatic updates turned on and played with security settings.
<
p>Still no go. It’s due to either an update in IE or a javascript update in the site (does anyone maintain the software on the site? Do updates or customizations?)

running in another window right now. Your home page must use or access some add-on which is not in most users IE. I get a message below the tool bar that says that an add-on for this site has failed to run. However, the page comes in otherwise, although the text is very large when compared to other sites I frequent. Also, when I click on and go to one of the conversation pages, such as this one, that message doesn’t appear, even though the appearance, with the very large text is the same.

My post appeared here, and when I view it in IE8, but in IE8, I can’t post a comment, although I appear as a logged on user. Go figure.

I have no problem posting replies on other soapblox sites – only bmg. If problem is being worked on, updates would be nice. Good-bye 4 now – will check back to see if problem fixed
