Today’s Globe story about the 2010 campaign’s final couple of weeks has the following important quote from Mass. Dems Chair John Walsh:
“We’ve got to close the enthusiasm gap,” said state Democratic Party chairman John Walsh.
As I’ve already pointed out, the numbers say that Democrats are the odds-on favorites to win the close races in MA this year. MA-Gov, MA-10, all of them. We can win, and we should win.
But we cannot just assume that it will happen. As a certain local Democrat has been heard to say, “hope for the best, and work for it.” There’s no doubt that our differently-winged friends are salivating over highly motivated by the prospect of reclaiming some of the statewide offices and the congressional seats. They want it bad. We have to want it just as bad.
But, you say, I’m just one person! What can I do?
Pretty simple, really.

Got my GOTV info today; will knock on doors as part of the final push. Will try to make some calls from home. Would love to do more, but 3 kids and a 60 hour workweek make that difficult.

p>I could soon be represented by a birther. I thought the movie I saw from 2001 to 2009 was bad; GOP 2.0 is more regressive and less in touch with reality.

We’ll go out and do whatever we can to help get Republicans elected in MA. We are standing on street corners holding signs in the rain against uphill odds on success but we are trying. I have high hopes but I’m realistic that MA is full of so many people who for Democrats we should be happy for “any” victories. Too bad some Democrats on BMG don’t realize that we need some more balance in this state to stop the Finneran, Flaherty, DiMasi, Wilkerson… types of ethic/legal violations that occur in a one-party state.

They’re just both Democrats. I’d also point out that all of the bugbears you point out in your comment are no longer in office.

p>Although, I will say that it makes me very fearful about Democrats’ chances when I see Republicans and volunteers standing out in the rain holding signs. I wish you wouldn’t do that. Please, especially don’t do it all day. That really shows commitment that we Democrats can’t match.

You are correct that those people I mention aren’t in office anymore but my point is the single party reality in MA gives it so much power that these people can’t resist the urge to break the laws. There is no balance and no “other” side to keep anyone honest. I know it comes down to what the people want because we vote them in, that’s our system. I’m hoping enough voters understand that and restore some Republicans but I just don’t know if we have the time. Maybe we’ll pick up some seats and the losers will get their names out there and come back 2 years from now and get elected.

p>We like the rain so much but it’s been too damn nice out.
