p>Especially given his comment about how he had to give up his nice job to run, I’ve wondering if Baker is regretting his decision to get into the race. Even when asked “why are you running when you might blow it for your kindred competitor?”, both Stein and Cahill seemed upbeat. Either could have said, “because I’m really enjoying this!” and I would have believed them. And Deval has always looked comfortable campaigning.

p>It’s pure conjecture, of course, but I do wonder. Eighteen months ago, the idea of a Baker candidacy made some Dems shake in their boots. It sure looked like a slam dunk on paper. But it’s hardly been that. I realize he can still win, but it has not been the cakewalk that was forecast when his name was first floated.
