NEWS FLASH!!!!! We just caught the Webster folks putting attack flyers on mailboxes which is ILLEGAL. The plate was taken and reported to police. Police are now searching for the vehicle. Josh Cutler, running for State Rep. for Duxbury, Pembroke, Hanson, and Halifax, his volunteers caught them in the act.
Last minute election hijinx are nothing new to Massachusetts, and certainly not new to the Republican party. What’s remarkable is the content of the flyer. Other then hateful and basesless attacks on Josh Cutler, the flyer claims that Rep Webster has a 100% attendace record as State Rep, a quick google search will show you that the Plymouth Daily News, on October 16th of this year, names Webster in the top 10 worst attendance records in the house. He missed 28 votes in 1 day. 100%? That’s a lie and he should be ashamed. |

On campaigns I’ve done lit-drops for we’ve been specifically told to do what the photograph shows because to place them INSIDE the boxes would be illegal. My understanding is that door jams, newspaper boxes, and mailbox flags are all fair game. Honestly I’ve always thought this a silly rule anyway. Businesses put non-postal fliers in mailboxes all the time and it doesn’t hurt anyone. It’s just nuisance and tattle-taling that only campaigns seem to have to worry about. I suggest you challenge Webster on the content of the fliers rather than have a fit over where they are placed.

I have been told, by multiple postal carriers, that you can place lit on top of a mailbox, in a newspaper slot (although the news company may have a beef), on door handles, in between doors, under doors, basically anywhere but in the mailbox or whatever the house is using as a mailbox. Putting anything in the mailbox that does not have a stamp on it can carry repercussions from the post office. If they determine that the campaign or business has been placing items in mailboxes without stamps they will charge you the first class postage rate for EVERY address on each route on which you or your supporters were found to have violated the rules.
<
p>So challenge on the content but don’t waste the police’s time on this, if anything its a postal service issue and it comes across as petty especially when you have a much stronger argument on the merits.

I saw this attack piece yesterday. Webster is truly a piece of work.
<
p>First, this attack piece is certainly from his campaign and not some supporter. It sites statistics that only someone in Webster’s State office could know like total votes casts over his entire career, number of individual constituent contacts and other stats about his state house career that are not publicly available.
<
p>Second, it claims that he has a “IRONCLAD 100% attendance record.” I don’t know what time period he is referring to, but he is certainly not talking about his entire career. I am not a mathematician but if you miss just one roll call vote your record can’t be 100%.
<
p>Third, so much of this flyer is suspect, it’s hard to tell what is actually true. For example, he claims that he secured funding to “protect our ponds and waters ways” when in actuality he got an “F” from the Massachusetts League of Environmental Voters. In addition, the flyer prominently features a quote from the Boston Globe, which takes up half of one side. At a glance it appears that the Boston Globe endorsed Webster, but once you read it, you find that his name appears no where in the article. It’s clever, but also confusing and deceptive.
<
p>If you see it, don’t trust it. It stinks like fish in the summer sun.
<
p>This is just the kind of politics that poison the public discorse and have no place in our Commonwealth.
<
p>Vote Cutler and send a message to Webster that the voters of the 6th Plymouth District won’t tolerate his hate and lies.
