Over the last few days my campaign has spoken to three of those local organizations. The Back Bay Association was interested…until they found out my opponent was Marty Walz. The Beacon Hill Civic Association says she won’t return their calls. The West End Civic Association told us Walz said she wasn’t interested in debates.
Of course given her record of tax increases, anti-job voting history, her votes for unsustainable spending and her support for Sal DiMasi for House Speaker, I wouldn’t want to debate me either.
But at least be honest about it. Read the entire press release HERE.
As most BMG readers know, I not only post here but engage as well. When it comes to debates I don’t think it should be any different for Representative Walz. I encourage others who feel our elected officials owe it to the voters to debate in the arena of ideas to call Representative Walz’s campaign at 617-536-2010 and ask her to stop blocking local debates.

Been a few 24 hours since you promised to “clarify” your anti-choice position on your web site. Still not done.

<
p>Those oh so entertaining photos on the Facebook page you created? How about them?
<
p>Or are you still blaming others?

<
p>You mean the Facebook page with 7 admins and 3000+ members?
<
p>So Bob,
<
p>What do you think of a politician of either party who says they’ll do locally organized debates and then tells those same organizations that he/she won’t?
<
p>Bet it makes you feel all warm ‘n’ fuzzy about our political class.
medfieldbluebob says
How do I feel about a flip flopper? How do I feel about someone who promises to do something and doesn’t?
<
p>You’re listed as the creator of the Facebook page. And the other web page is yours. You promised to correct and clarify those pages. You haven’t.
<
p>Until then…….

I promised to post my position on a woman’s right to choose. I did that. What other web page are you talking about?
medfieldbluebob says
This one
<
p>And it is THIS ONE that you promised to correct, clarify, edit, etc….
<
p>Or are you misremembering.
<
p>One web site you’re anti-choice the other you’re pro-choice. Which is it?
<
p>One web site you’re a tea party radical, the other a harmless socially moderate republican. Just like Mitt. Which is it?
<
p>These are your web sites, you’re listed as admin and/or creator on them. You can fix them, if you so choose.
<
p>You can take the racist Islamophobic pictures off the Facebook page. But no. That would bother your tea party comrades.
<
p>Best Regards Brad.

Bob,
<
p>You obviously spend a lot more time at that Facebook page than I do.
<
p>As far as The Next Right blog post, I can’t edit it as I didn’t post it. As it says on the post it was “Submitted by The Mad Irish Man on Fri, 06/27/2008 – 01:54”
<
p>Also, I am not an admin or creator of The Next Right so you are simply factually incorrect.
<
p>Now back to Representative Walz misrepresenting her willingness to debate in front of the voters of the Eighth Suffolk District.

<
p>From today’s Cambridge Chronicle:
<
p>The Brad Marston campaign issued a press release Tuesday saying that Marty Walz, the Democratic incumbent in the race, is refusing to participate in debates, and one group in particular, the Back Bay Association, expressed interest “until they found out who [the] opponent was.”
<
p>Meg Mainzer-Cohen, the president of the business-focused Back Bay Association, said the statement isn’t true.
<
p>”That is an out-and-out lie,” she said.
<
p>”It’s ridiculous that he would involve us in this,” said Mainzer-Cohen, who added her organization was first approached by Marston to “join the campaign” a year ago and then was approached again in recent weeks to ask to sponsor a debate. “We’re a nonprofit. We don’t get involved in debates.”
<
p>Marston also said in the release that the “heads of both the Beacon Hill and West End Civic Associations have stated they want to sponsor debates. Yet they still aren’t happening.”
<
p>Suzanne Bresser, the head of the Beacon Hill Civic Association, said the group is discussing hosting a debate between the candidates but hasn’t yet set a date.
<
p>”But we wish to assure you that neither candidate has turned us down or in any way indicated an unwillingness to participate,” said Bresser in an e-mail to both campaigns.

A registered Democrat who donated the maximum $500 to the Walz campaign in 2008 when she didn’t have an opponent. Hmmm. Why doesn’t the term unimpeachable source immediately spring to mind?
metawampe says
Do you think she’s in the tank, too?

All we’ve got to go on from your side is what you say … and you’re the only one saying it. Whereas all these groups seem to be saying that Walz isn’t ducking debates. Not a single one of the groups has backed up your version of the story. Sooooo … finding it a little hard to believe you on this one. Sorry.
