Very sad to see that Barbara fell to Jim Lyons. She was a compassionate, smart, and hardworking legislator. Tough year yet she almost pulled it out.
Barbara – you legacy in education and autism treatment will be felt for years. I thank you for your service and wish that I had been in a better position to help you keep working for us.
I’m not in your district, but live in North Andover.

In a neighboring district Pat Commane fell to Paul Adams who apparently has a history as an anti-gay activist. Andover will not be well-represented in the House for the next couple years, so Senator-elect Finegold will have to take up the progressive torch for them. I’d be interested to see how this affects redistricting next year.

Barbara’s victor is just as bad as Paul Adams. By running for State Representative, Lyons had to make sure her views on equality would no longer be heard on Beacon Hill. As a member of the St Augustine Parish Council and a signer of the marriage petition, James Lyons was instrumental in having her forced out of their church.
<
p>It didn’t matter to the voters in her district, caught up in Tea Party mania, that Lyons is multiple tax delinquent with shady business practices.

I didn’t realize people got excommunicated anymore. Definitely an epic fail in the WWJD department.

Barbara was a wonderful legislator. Everything that we hope for. Smart, passionate, courageous. She has it all.

p>Hoping Deval finds a place for her.

The legislature can ill afford to lose someone like Barbara.

Barbara will be sorely missed. Ironically, the new Autism Commission she helped create starts its work next month.
<
p>I am sure that Barbara will find an outlet for her talents and will continue to advocate for those with developmental disabilities and learning differences. Perhaps there is a place for her in the Administration. Perhaps she will find a spot in the private non-profit world, or as a consultant.
<
p>In any event, I wish her all the very best going forward, and I’m sure we haven’t heard or seen the last of her!
