Scott Brown has lost the leverage (and spotlight) that comes with being Senator Sixty. And Joe Battenfeld is probably right, it’s tough to see how being a rank-and-file Republican is going to be an asset in the Commonwealth.
To keep his seat, Brown’s probably going to have to tack to port over the next two years. But, that may end any national aspirations he might have.
Or, he can vote the party line, making him a Republican presidential contender in 2012. And, he wouldn’t have to win in 2012 to be a success. He’d be a natural VP choice. A good showing would put him on the national radar for years.
Running for president seems like the much lower-risk proposition.
