From all accounts the Merrimack valley Democrats are suffering from the defeat of
activist Rep. Barbara L’Italien.
The Eagle tribune seems to be leaning right these days and has printed their opinion of the soon to be former Rep.
All I can say is ouch!
I’m happy however that it looks like L’Italien will be landing a new job

Barbara L’Italien was a hard working, honest representative who gave good service, and choose what was best for the Commonwealth over what would make her ability to retain elected office easy. Her compassion for the autism and disabled community and the manner in which she honored her oath of office added one ray of sunlight to Beacon Hill. Treasurer-elect Grossman will be both lucky and wise if he is able to add Barbara L’Italien to his incoming administration because she will adhere to the highest ethical standards while giving her new position a 110% effort. The Legislature’s loss and her district’s loss will be the Treasurer’s and Commonwealth’s gain.

Rep. L’Italien is a trained social worker. She is a very good advocate on autism and disability.
<
p>If she were being offred a job in health or human services, that would make sense.
<
p>But what is her background in banking, finance or investment that would make her a good fit in the Treasurer’s office?

Other than that, you will have to ask Steve Grossman, Peter. He did not ask me. However, caliber of personnel, proven honesty, and a strong work ethic count for a lot.

Nobody said she was going to be cranking out the actuarial tables for the pension system or issuing bond prospectuses.
<
p>Makes sense to me that the Treasurer would want to coordinate as much as possible with other offices in state government and that a person with eight years’ experience in government might be a very good choice for the job.

She was progressive representing a district that was decidedly not. Her successor is bigoted enough to get Barbara thrown out of her church for her stance on marriage equality.

What really gave it away was saying “The Eagle Tribune seems to be leaning right these days…”
<
p>The Trib has been leaning right since before the Bread and Roses strike.
