I rose at 3:30 AM today to get to the airport before 4:30 to check in and get a seat assignment and a boarding pass. I was determined to be on that plane! The flight left about 40 minutes late but still got us to Boston “on time” at 8:45 AM. As I waited for my luggage at the baggage carousal, Channel 25 news was interviewing folks on my flight to cover the tales of woe of Bostonians stranded by the blizzard of 2010. I slipped into a taxi and sped home.
I must say I found mildly annoying the postings of some of my FaceBook friends, to the effect that they were enjoying watching the pretty snow fall. My experience was relatively benign. Lots of folks were sleeping on the floors in airports or trapped in planes from Europe that could not get arrival gates at JFK. Many folks are yet still stranded away from home, marooned in America.

I’ve spent two overnights in airports in the last three years, and I know how frustrating travel can be.

p>Simply put, the airline industry barely makes any money, using an infrastructure that is barely adequate. So any slight disturbance is going to have serious ripple effects, and a serious one is going to be calamitous.
<
p>I’m not complaining since the only alternative seems to be charging a lot more for airplane tickets, but it’s always a gamble on a plane…

No fun at all.

… and my mother had plenty of chores to fill my time.

p>On the other hand, now that I’m back in Boston, I now have to get used again to my own cooking (cringe).

And you attend it at Christmas dinner, rather than the other way around? I am very puzzled by this arrangement. That’s not the future I was led to expect.

p>Possibly these are not the droids I’m looking for.

I found it quite annoying reading all the facebook updates from disgruntled, complaining holiday travelers. I opted to refrain from broadcasting my delight of being snowed in, a day off, movie rentals and fun cookin’ in the kitchen.
<
p>Sucks that you had to travel through the whole country just to get home but that it was unappreciated.

p>Hoosiers are in general, a friendly bunch.

I got back OK, my suitcase got an extended vacation. I was on the last plane out of Boston on Sunday before they closed it. Coming back Saturday was uneventful, until the baggage carousel.

p>Glad you made it back.
