I think it would be better if they were posted after the diary, instead of in between the title and the diary. It’s a little distracting and makes it that much harder to ‘wow’ people with our terrific posts :p
If someone posts a comment to a diary, then someone can reply, and someone can reply to the person who replied.

It goes right into the “networked site”. Do you think
“Part of the Blue Mass Group Network” link should be at the bottom of Networked sites as well? It’s on the top, but I’m thinking if a reader a scrolling through comments and is at the bottom on the page they could go back to BMG if they wanted, kind of like the HOME link now. There is always the back button but I figured I’d mention. Tx.
Anyone can post as anyone else, especially when not logged in, but even when logged in you can change your nickname to that of someone else who has an account, either their account name or their nickname. Given that sometimes important people post to this blog, maybe that’s not the best situation.
<
p>* I used ‘blog’ as my subdomain for my account, making my URL blog.bmgdev.com. That seems a bit misleading. Maybe you want to have a list of subdomains you want to prohibit.
<

<

Maybe something with just FP posts, I can see this bringing in a ton more hits to the site. Quickly being able read in a simple easy to read fashion on your phone would be a good feature.
User name was already documented on comments. But there are other issues, I enter Name and Email, didn’t get a confirmation of email address, many times at other sites you are mailed a confirmation link and restricted to names not already taken.
<
p>Didn’t know if you were keeping the restriction of posting comments to only those logged in. That would alleviate some of the issues.

Just noticed, no polls. Wordpress does allow for polling. Again, didn’t know if this was intended.

be they elected or appointed, I’d like to see a different standard for their logins and posts. By that I mean things like this:
<
p> * A “checkbox” for officials creating accounts — which then gets flagged and requires a BMGEditor to confirm with their office that it’s legit. To my knowledge BMG hasn’t had a problem with fugazi handles, but I’d like to keep it that way.
* A standard name/title system for each of them. State Senator Murray, Governor Deval Patrick, Rep DeLeo… whatever the format, one that’s consistent.
* This opens the question — if that person gets a new job title, can the two items be detwined; ie if a State Rep becomes a State Senator, can they keep their account but change their title?
<
p>I feel like this would add a bit of legitimacy both to their accounts and to the site as a whole. It’s a feature request not a bug report, but food for thought.
I think it will have to be put off to the future, since it would require some additional infrastructure not in our current plans. But well worth thinking about.
johnksays
If you comment on a Networked Site post, it displays on the BMG “Recent Comments” on the front page. This is true for both FP posts and non-FP posts. Don’t know if that matters, but FYI.
I’m not sure whether that’s a good idea or not. đŸ™‚ We’ll think about it. My initial sense is that we definitely want every BMG Network post feeding through to BMG, but I’m not sure we want every comment, since a heavily-commented-on post from a BMG Network site could end up taking over BMG’s “recent comments” thread. What do you think?
johnksays
is that people come to BMG to mostly review the FP material. Networked sites get exposure within Recent Posts section and those which are FP’ed. When visiting networked sites, they only display comments from their own unique blog. I’m thinking that doing the same with BMG might work better and provide those who read BMG exposure to comment headers on FP posts.
This is a serious problem. It’s not going to be long before people discover that they can cause trouble by impersonating others.
johnksays
Sco, I think you tried to spoof a comment on a Network Site FP post. I just received an email requesting approval of your comment within “Who Knew?”
<
p>Text:
I’m sco signed in as Ryan. Can the system tell?
<
p>So an FP Post from a “Networked Site”, I can govern what comments are allowed on the post even though it’s on the BMG front page. It requires my approval.
<
p>Should I leave this with no action, so it could be used as an example if you wish to pursue.
<
p>Not really sure I can think of an answer for this one.
When I submitted the comment, it showed up as awaiting moderation.
<
p>This leads to an interesting question. Who owns the posts on the front page? If the Editors do, they should be the ones who moderate the comments. If not, then we get into a situation where the Editors may take the blame for an over or under zealous moderator on their sub-blogs.
johnksays
The comment appeared with other comments with the similar date, noted it in the reply. So Networked site approval (if set up) will govern what appears as comments on an FP post, then if later approved will appear on recent comments.
johnksays
I just edited a new BMG comment. I still have the option to Trash or report as Spam any comment on my Networked Site.
that this is not an acceptable state of affairs. We have asked our developer to change things around so that only registered users can comment, and only under their user name, just as on Soapblox. I think that’s the best way to go, don’t you?
