As we have previously announced, in the reasonably near future Blue Mass Group will transition from the Soapblox platform to a customized WordPress platform. We’ve opened the new platform for you to play around with, and we encourage you to do so.
Here’s an update on some bug fixes and other issues as we move toward the actual transition.
Some users reported that they could not see a “Recommend” button even when they were logged in. We think this problem has been fixed – please check it out. Remember that, as on Soapblox, you’ll only see a “Recommend” button when you are logged into your account. A bug in the “Page 2” promotion feature that resulted in Page 2 posts also appearing on the front page (as happened with sabutai’s “Country music” post) has been fixed. Now, when we move a post to Page 2, it will appear there, but not on the front page. We are working on a number of comment-related issues. We think we have a solution that will allow users to include a subject line in their comment, just as Soapblox does. A more complicated problem, however, is that it turns out to be difficult to flag comments as “new” since a user’s last visit to a page. I find that feature to be very useful, so we are trying to work something out. We’ve never had comment moderation – i.e., holding comments in a queue for approval by an admin, instead of just letting them appear when posted – on BMG, and barring some unforeseen development, we don’t intend to have it going forward. Therefore, we will be disabling comment moderation (which is normally available on WordPress) on BMG 3.0 and on BMG Network blogs. Of course, all users will be expected to adhere to BMG’s Rules of the Road throughout the BMG Network. We expect to be able to implement a comment rating system. Rather than our current numerical system, the plan is simply to have a “like/dislike” system which will display how many “likes” and “dislikes” each comment gets. We’ll explore what the ratings might mean, if anything, as we go forward. If you haven’t tinkered with the beta site yet, we strongly encourage you to do so, and to post comments, complaints, observations, etc. here or on the issues thread at the beta site. We’ll keep you apprised of how things are going and when we expect to make the transition.
Please share widely!
