We interrupt our regularly-scheduled witty and incisive political commentary to bring you the following special announcement:
Two-thirds of BMG’s editors are singing lead roles in Igor Stravinsky’s brilliant opera The Rake’s Progress. Charley sings the role of the rakish Tom Rakewell, and I am singing Nick Shadow, who is actually the devil in disguise.
The performance is at 7:30 pm this Saturday evening, April 16, at Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston. Tickets are available here or at the door, and range from $25-$65, with a special student rate of $10. There’s also a deal available for a pre-concert dinner at the Taj Boston next door.
The Globe did a piece on the performance today.
The Rake’s Progress is a really wonderful opera, and we are all very excited about this performance. It would be great to see some BMGers there, so we hope you can join us!
Ah well. I guess we’ll have to sing to an empty house. (Again.)
<
p>At least no one will know if we miss a few notes.
…but if you want to sell tickets, you do need Bob to sing…not to compare Bob to Charlie Sheen, but it does sell tickets.
Bravissimi tutti!
<
p>David/Nick Shadow had a great time corrupting Charley/Tom Rakewell, who kept changing his mind about whether he liked being corrupted or not. Two magnificent voices in a splendid cast!
<
p>Standing ovation from packed house, including me!
Our boys might be too modest to post this, so I will. It’s a rave:

p>”Ryan Turner expertly led a fine cast, orchestra, and chorus, and the performance was a virtually unqualified success.”
We had a great time doing it.
