I can’t say I’ve ever actually seen this particular gesture before … but it sure doesn’t look very polite. HT the Masster List, which points to the hilarious video from last night’s Greater Boston of the Herald’s “Lone Republican” Holly Robichaud, along with WGBH reporter Adam Reilly and Democratic operative Scott Ferson, chatting with Emily Rooney about Setti Warren’s entry into the MA-Sen race.
As you can see from the video below, Holly seems to associate her gesture with calling someone a “loser,” but that should look more like this – note the resemblance to the letter “L” formed by the angle of the thumb and forefinger:
Anyway, you can watch Holly make her mysterious hand gesture in context on this video – the fun starts at about 10:30.

Holly looks like a muppet.

Meh, it just looks to me like she’s never seen the “loser” gesture (which is the actual sign for “loser” in American Sign Language) before and was trying to copy it based on descriptions she’s read.

I saw this segment Monday night. LOVED IT! It must now be a rule that whenever Emily has a segment discussing local politics, if she has a guest on to give the Republican point-of-view, THAT GUEST MUST ALWAYS BE HOLLY ROBICHAUD AND NO ONE ELSE!
