This is it. Do or die.
A couple of meaningless historical tidbits that I’ll pass on in any case:
1) (As a Red Wings fan, I find this one painful). The last time the home teams held serve through six games was just two years ago, 2009. In game seven, the away team had the first and only road win to take the Cup.
2) The last four times the Bruins were in the Stanley Cup Final, they lost to a Canadian team (Habs in ’78 and ’79; Oilers in ’88 and ’90).
I will go out on a limb and make one prediction. Actually, it’s not much of a limb and it’s pretty crowded out here: Tim Thomas wins the Conn Smythe trophy for most valuable player, regardless of which team wins. The way he has played, he’d be in contention anyway, but given that no one else has distinguished themselves in this series, he’d have to have an awful game tonight to not get it (and that’s not going to happen).
I’m hoping for two or three overtimes. Sorry if that causes too much self-inflicted hair loss for you Bs fans!

It is interesting to note that the referees are the same guys who did game 7 against Tampa Bay. I think that night, as well as tonight, the message was, “If you guys behave yourselves and don’t give us a good reason to call any penalties, we won’t call any.”

For stopping bad ideas, you can’t beat Tim. (sports fans)
Tim for Senate (fool Cahill’s supporters).

Daniel Sedin should get an assist on that goal for running interference on Luongo.
Here comes the first power play (for Vancouver).
Jasiu says
No shots on goal during the PP for Vancouver. And one unconventional shot for Boston that got by Luongo.
If Boston plays a solid 20 minutes, it’s theirs.
Charley on the MTA says
Luongo is now toast.

this were happening in Boston. No jinxies.

This Boston fan hopes for the best and plans for the worst.
Still, I certainly wouldn’t want to trade places right now with the Canucks. That is for sure.
GO B’s!

or is hockey cool again? Maybe it’s a localized thing in Boston, but I’m feeling it could be more than that. I don’t remember hockey being this “cool” in the US since the mid 90s.
Jasiu says
I’m not sure what that means. I’ve never worried about whether the sport was fashionable or not. I’ve watched and played (off and on) since I was a kid with no worries about who else was interested.
I’m sure some fans have jumped on the bandwagon during the Bruins run and I’m OK with that. Enjoy it! And I’m sure some will jump back off if and when the team hits a rough patch. That’s OK too.
Congratulations also to the Bruins fans for their behavior in town last night.
Jasiu says
Well played, well deserved.

I admit I had my doubts. Fantastic job by all of them- kept that intensity right up to the end.
Congratulations, Bruins!

The police acted professionally, distancing the thugs from the fans. No evidence of agents provocateurs on the part of the police (Thirty-something police in plainclothes breaking stuff). Somebody put some discipline and training into the police. Only one arrest.
We can be proud of the police today.
