The Democratic Party’s strength and power is in our grassroots. Every four years, the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s grassroots leadership is elected, and 2012 is the year to be elected on the ballot. Each town and ward will elect Democratic Town/Ward Committee members and a portion of Democratic State Committee members are elected from every senate district on the Presidential Primary ballot on March 6, 2012. Each senate district elects two members (one man and one woman), and any registered Democrat can run for one of these seats.
If you or someone you know is interested in being a member of the Democratic State Committee, nomination papers are now available for you to obtain and start collecting signatures to run for one of these seats.
- You can find the list of current members and contact information on our website by clicking here.
- The Secretary of State has put together a packet on the rules and procedures for running for Democratic State Committee that can be found here. Please note the Secretary of State addresses the re-districting of districts and encourages all candidates to collect signatures within their precinct.
- You can also find information on how to run for your town and ward committee here.
You can also become a member of the Democratic State Committee through a Senate District Caucus or be elected by the body as an at-large member (you can find details here http://massdems.org/about/bylaws.cfm). We will send more information as those opportunities arise.
Your party needs your leadership as we enter this important election year ahead. We hope you will become part of our leadership in your community or beyond. If you have any questions or if we can help in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 617-939-0800.
Thank you,

And new folks are needed, there really is a lot of work to be done all over the state in refreshing and supporting core Democratic values. Thank you, Clare, for a very informative post with all the links folks would need to bring themselves up to speed.
Yes, I have pulled papers for another four years on the SDC doing my best to be both useful, and to make a positive difference in the 4th Middlesex.
…the DSC has at least as many add-on seats as elected seats. These will be elected by the elected membership at their organizational meeting in the spring of 2012.
I’m running for re-election to the DSC. I have served for 16 years and I am working to get elected for four more years. I’ll write another post when it gets closer to the election. For now, read my message from 2008, when I last ran. I spend most of my free time working to support the Democratic Party, our candidates and our issues. I respectfully ask for your vote.
concept of a coronation? You might be the best example of deserving a coronation. You’ve done so much for us, please let us know what we can do to help.
Sue, thanks for your kind words. I need signatures for my nomination papers! If you live in Middlesex and Worcester, consisting of Marlborough, Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Hudson, Littleton, Maynard, Shirley, Stow and Sudbury, precincts 2, 3 and 5, in the county of Middlesex; and Harvard, Northborough, precinct 3, Southborough and Westborough, in the county of Worcester. Please let me know if you are able to sign papers. Additionally, plan on voting on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Ask family and friends in those communities to vote for me.
I support you because I know you, I have seen your hard work, your generosity of spirit in training others, your accessibility, and your willingness to lead from the front, and in the trenches and to do all the same work you coach others in learning how to do. Go Kate! Elizabeth Warren and Bob Massie would BOTH be in trouble if you had pulled papers for the US Senate, just my opinion, mind you.
To clarify for those who are not familiar with arcane DSC elections. I am running for re-election to DSC, a position that I have held for four terms. In addition, I am running for DNC. a position elected by DSC members in May. Thank you for your kind words.
