I can’t believe this happens in America to this day. Troy Davis is set to be executed on September 21st in spite of new evidence that he did not kill police officer Mark MacPhail in 1989. He was convicted on witness testimony only; there was no physical evidence. Seven out of the nine witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony and still, this man is going to be put to death instead of being given a new trial.
What kind of country are we?

I admit I haven’t followed this closely, but how is that even possible?

and have not been following it too closely either but it seems to me to be of urgent importance. In the amnestyusa.com link provided in the post there is this information about the witnesses.

the witness information is in the naacp link:

I don’t know if they are trying to commute the death sentence only or the entire conviction, but he has already been denied the right to a new trial.

If there is this much of a chance that this guy is innocent than not only should his death sentence be commuted but he really should get a new trial so that he can be set free.

seven of nine of the witnesses “recanted”, now I’m seeing that they recanted or contradicted. Not even sure it makes a difference but I’m going to update the post anyway.
