From what I’m hearing from the people they are electing, defense cuts and corporate loophole reform are off the table. I know this is a comedy show but I’m rather shocked to hear her say the things she is saying. It’s sort of the opposite of what I thought they were for.
Also, CNN is hosting the CNN/Tea Party Express GOP presidential debate. What the heck is that about? Poor GOP. Maybe this is step one in dropping the GOP part and just calling it the Tea Party. Don’t really care what the GOP calls itself. What I care about is that MSM is once again changing the landscape of our country and working hard to manipulate public opinion. When is it going to end?

I’ve said all along that if they meant what they said and weren’t just a GOP astroturf prop many would side with us.

I thinks it’s one of groups bought and paid for by corporations. I am confused by her talking points though. It could be that she is trying to appeal to the audience there. I’ll have to pay more attention to what she’s saying in other settings.

It’s interesting that she says they’re not Republicans. NPR had a report late last year (I think) that said Tea Partiers are split — half are GOPers, but some true believers think they need to form their own party.
However, they RUN as Republicans, don’t they? So, for that half anyway, we can add dishonesty to their resume.

I don’t know of any Tea Party group supporting Dems. So she is lying there. If they weren’t supporting any party they should be supporting 3rd party candidates.

Some of them really think of themselves as not Republicans. As I recall, purity is one of the five factors that often appear in human moral thinking. The Tea Party strives to be purer than the GOP.
JimC says
If they really consider themselves members of a separate party, then they should do the work of building that party without leveraging things like official GOP recognition in all 50 states.
Why should the GOP subsidize its own supplication?
kbusch says
and that implies good and bad.

a strong populist movement consisting of gravely misinformed people. I would be more likely to call it a corporate front group rallying those who are mad but too busy to do research. It’s such a shame really.

Since Obama is ignoring my call to drop out of the race, he should go to a Tea Party candidate forum. His best moment was his q & a with the House Republicans early in his term. I bet he would be able to repeat his performance with the Tea Party, and maybe even get something done. I pointed out this connection between Obama’s position on tax policy and that of Pat Toomey, a Tea Party favorite, a few weeks back.

he would fit right in. Cut the deficit, cut the deficit, cut the deficit. Those words are coming out of his mouth all of the time. By the way, “cut the deficit” is old news. No one really cares about that too much anymore. Especially now that people know what Congress and Obama are willing and not willing to cut to get there. People are angry at Obama for sure, but they are terrified of Republicans. What do you mean “get something done”? It’s going to be hard as it is for Obama to get a second term now because of all the caving he’s done. If he caters much more to the Tea Party he will definitely be out next year.
