And in those conversations, sometimes ideas are refined – or even born. So I beg to differ. I have had an RMG account since the beginning.
Further, I find “litmus test thinking” at best unappetizing, and often, down right disgusting.
Passion about governance is FAR better than apathy, and anywhere I can shed light and bring in air is good as far as I am concerned. There is less democracy every year in this state, and less participation – I am hoping the Occupy movement changes and there is evolution towards direct democracy and greater participation; I support the occupy movement at this time for that reason, and because the folks involved care about making this world a better place – and that is where all positive change must begin. Actual improvements are about progress, not magical and instant perfection.

I don’t find RMG to be good practice. I enjoy conversing with engaging, thoughtful conservatives, but those conservative thinkers have a history of being chased out of RMG or quickly leaving for greener, more intelectually fertile pastures. Seriously, how many formerly prolific conservative commenters at RMG have nothing to do with the site now?
RMG seems to me like a loose confederation of GOP talking point bots, commenters who mimic right wing AM talk radio, people who like use profanity to denigrate and dismiss people that think differently, people who misrepresent evidence to support their points, and the occasional bigot (Note: I said occasional).
Free-thinkers, rationalists, and evidence-based arguers need not apply to RMG.

A good use of RMG is to comb it for unpleasant things in the news one might filter out, e.g., the latest on Patrick and Ameriquest.
A petty and hard to resist use of RMG is to compare how the same people post here and there. For example, our resident scold against hypocrisy and for blaming Bush for “everything” somehow finds a way to credit Bush for something he didn’t do.
Then, of course, there’s the stuff that allows commentators like Steven J. Gulliti to slip into reflexive contempt. There are way more self-identified conservatives than liberals, and more self-identified conservatives than moderates. We need to change that, and intellectually lazy contempt — no matter how gratifying or enjoyable –sheds no light on how to accomplish that.

It’s also amusing to read through the thread and enjoy the wild mischaracterizations and misunderstandings of our policy here.
By creating an account on Red Mass Group you agree to abide by the following rules:
1) You will not post libelous statements about any figure public or private.
2) You will not post links to any commercial services or goods without the express written permission of the management of Red Mass Group.
Violation of these rules will result in a $1,000 per violation charge, each link will be treated as a seperate violation. An invoice will be sent to the email account you used to join. If this invoice is not paid within 15 days of the date, legal action will be taken.

Upon what legal basis are they entitled to collect $1000 fines from anyone? Unless they are providing a service that is worth more then that, I don’t see that such an online contract would be considered enforceable. I would be totally shocked to hear that they had actually gotten anyone stupid enough to give them money because of a violation.
When your enemy forms a circular firing squad, don’t join them. Make sure you’re out of range and enjoy the show.
That circular firing squad may be firing at CVUM, but they miss far more often than they hit and look like buffoons in the process.

Of course it was two weeks before the Deval/Kerry Healy election. So I wasn’t around to knock Deval like I had.
But I’m sure they had good reasons.
Just like RMG. It’s their blog.

It explains the over the top attempts to sound ‘authentically bostonian’ and his crticisms of liberals and conservatives failing to meet his lofty standards. Also the pathological hatred for Howie Carr. But in real life Barnicle is enjoying being a sub host on MSNBC where at least he is on tv and Howie is not. Howie hates it when his contemporaries are more successful (hence his hatred of similar right wing idiot Bill O’Reilly)

I knew that wasn’t the case, and I knew that I had participated in a discussion about it – ah, google is my friend! Here’s a revealing exchange about billxi’s banning, with none other than Rob “Eabo Clipper” Eno weighing in:
[new] Editors – why is this guy still here?
Billxi was banned – Lasthorseman deserves the same fate. Please consider cleaning up the site… johnt001 @ Tue 4 Dec 7:00 PM
[new] When has he ever publicly attacked anybody in this forum.
Yes his ideas are warped. But do you want to ban him because you don’t agree with him? That’s odd. eaboclipper @ Tue 4 Dec 7:00 PM
[new] EaBo is right.
As far as I know, LH has never uttered personal attacks against BMGers – unlike billxi (among others), who did so enough times that we finally had to ban him.

Lovely sentiment from Rob, finding it odd that I would think someone should be banned for disagreeing – which, of course, was not my point, I thought he should be banned because he adds nothing but nonsense to every discussion he joins.

RMG isn’t interesting or useful for me.
I haven’t looked at it more than ten times in my life, but I already know what they “think,” what they’re going to say, and how they’re going to say it.
And since we already have the best of their conservatives here, why go there?
If they do not want it, they do not deserve it.
