US Senate candidates Alan Khazei and James Coyne King will be meeting with area voters on Tuesday, October 18 at forum hosted by the Westborough, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Northborough, Southborough, Hopkinton, Marlborough and Ashland Democratic Town Committees (DTCs). The meeting will be held at 7:00 PM at the Community Room at Tatnuck Booksellers at 18 Lyman Street In Westborough. This is the third in a series of events with candidates for US Senate.
There has been a lot of discussion about ensuring that people have an opportunity to meet and hear candidates. This is a great opportunity to hear two candidates. The format we use gives each candidate a full half hour to address voters. Each candidate typically talks for about 10 to 15 minutes about his or her background and reasons for running and then responds to questions for the remainder of the time. Additionally we have a 15 minute break between speakers allowing for opportunities to interact one to one with voters. The break also allows attendees to meet each other and have informal discussions. The schedule for Tuesday is that Alan will speak from 7:15 to 7:45 and Jim will speak from 8:00 PM to 830 PM.
Tatnuck Booksellers plays a special role in the history of progressive blogging in Massachusetts. Who remembers the gathering at the Worcester Tatnuck Booksellers in mid-December of 2005 of an informal group known as Blog Left Massachusetts? I was there as a guest speaker. It’s time we thought of gathering again!
At 8:30 those who are interested will head over to Ruby Tuesday’s which is just across the parking lot from the Westborough Tatnuck. Amber continued the tradition of BMG folks gathering socially with the group who got together after the debate in Lowell.
Alan Khazei co-founded City Year, a national urban peace corps, and Be the Change, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to building coalitions for public policy change. He worked closely with President Clinton to create AmeriCorps, the national service program whose inspiration was City Year, and with Senator Kennedy to craft and pass the Kennedy Serve America Act.
