Consider this a check in on the issue “is reply not working if the (would be) poster who wants to use ‘reply’ uses Internet Explorer? I know Internet Explorer has lots of problems, but many people do use it. I use both, not sure about other folks.

Use anything else.

A couple of users were complaining about their comments not being linked to what they were replying to, or not posting – so the word to the wise is: Use Firefox or Google Chrome when interested in replying or commenting on BMG and if you do use IE use it with something other than BMG and remember “it is a lousy product.”

In Firefox, the “new comment” count in the “Recent User Posts” sidebar is always wrong — it seems to show all the comments, whether or not I’ve read them. I haven’t looked at it in Chrome or IE, so it may be a Firefox “feature”.

with the [new] counter. Working on it – thanks for calling it to our attention!

For some reason, it no longer moves at an acceptable speed. Something is going on with IE.

for me. I’m no fan of Microsoft, but it seems to me like a website shouldn’t discriminate against whatever browser someone chooses to use.
Here are the web page errors when I bring BMG up:
Message: The URI to be decoded is not a valid encoding
Line: 2
Char: 311
Code: 0
URI: http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Here’s what I get when I try to Reply:
Message: Invalid argument.
Line: 2
Char: 18508
Code: 0
URI: http://ie7-js.googlecode.com/svn/version/2.0(beta3)/IE8.js

They are well-known for making IE not comply with the HTML standards. Apparently, in IE9, there is a procedure to make it behave. Here is a tutorial.
The fact that a tutorial is required reminds me of the Windows book I saw once, titled Plug and Play – Making It Work.

stuff, but it appears to be Javascript that is the problem here, not HTML.
There were BMG problems with a twitter widget before. At this point, it seems to have something to do with the Tweet Button.
The other error is some sort of PNG thing, which has to do with graphics.
Both errors may be directly due to IE. The Twitter widget, however, could be imperfectly designed or installed into BMG’s WordPress platform.

Is there a way to include the IE users? That IS a question worth asking. In the meantime, if you ARE an IE user, and want to reply, send it to me and I will put it in for you using FireFox the next time I visit BMG. My email is easy to discern from my profile here, or put it in a facebook message.

I prefer to use IE. I have to use it at work and don’t feel like switching back and forth.

…why did it just become a problem within the past few days. I have not changed or upgraded my browser that recently. I can comment on a diary, but I cannot reply to someone else’s comment.
