Occupy Wall Street news – group within Occupy Wall Street has formed, which left Wall Street today to march the 240 miles from Wall Street to Washington, D.C. to carry a message to the so-called Super Committee – end Bush era tax cuts for the wealthy. See http://content.usatoday.com/dist/custom/gci/InsidePage.aspx?cId=mycentraljersey&sParam=51124098.story
The marchers have chosen the title “Occupy the Highway”. Spokeswoman Kelley Brannon, who is the lead organizer on march logistics, stated the marchers will go by foot through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, picking up additional marchers along the way, some marching in solidarity for a day or part of a day.
The marchers plan to join with Occupy D.C. in McPherson Square the evening of November 22, 2011 then walk to the Capitol and the White House the next day.
The timing was chosen because the Super Committee must decide its plan by November 23, 2011.
Occupy Wall Street’s General Assembly voted $3000.00 to fund the march, for example to pay for the initial ferry ride over the Hudson River from West 34th Street to Elizabeth, N.J.
The marchers plan to cover an average of 20 miles per day on foot. They also plan to hold nightly discussions at set towns and cities along their route, for example in Occupy Philadelphia and Occupy Baltimore.
I will update as I receive more information. Anyone interested in carpooling to meet the march in Washington, DC?
