Personally I think showing ID is reasonable WHEN we can implement a system in which everyone can easily get a free ID, but the crop of legislation on this topic this year seems designed to deliberately make it more difficult for certain people to vote.
When someone registers to vote, the should get a temp ID right away and then mailed a FREE ID to their residence.

That’d make city halls have to do a lot more work. Plus they probably had to have a state photo ID to register to vote, didn’t they? So why not just use that one? Having an ID is useful for more than just voting, it’s silly to have an ID just to vote.

I think he means, we should appreciate our rights and not take them for granted, and if we don’t show how important it is by requiring an ID, then people will disrespect voting and not appreciate how lucky they are to live in a democracy…

The Democratic National Committee has researched and prepared a report on “The Real Cost of Photo ID Laws”. DNC Vice Chair Donna Brazile also wrote an article about the real impact of show ID laws. There is no such thing a free. Whether the voter pays to the taxpayers pay this is not free.
