While local issues (such as self-determination and statehood for D.C.) may vary, the clarity as to “what is the struggle about, what are the goals” is there, at least for me. The “struggle” is for democracy itself vs. the tyranny of oligarchic plutocracy, also known as fascism when plutocrats purchase, own, and control government. That requires: 1) Overturning the Citizens United decision by support for a constitutional amendment, 2) Overturning the legislation legitimizing insider dealing in stocks and the market by congressman and their staffers (most become millionaires and beholden to plutocrats since this was covertly legalized); and adjusting tax rates and incentives to reverse the concentration of income and power in the hands of the few at least back to what it was in 1980, what we are calling (because even though I am a “Democrat” I consider myself a member & participant in Occupy Boston) the 1% cannot be allowed to become the Owners of the USA. The horizonal democracy process is absolutely antagonistic towards annointing a leader/guru or leader/guru class to which I personally say: “Thank God and common sense for that!”
I seek a return and the protection of government of, by and for the people. Today, the United States of America is well on the road to government owned by corporations and their plutocratic true owners, by the minions and owners of said corporations or plutocrats themselves, and for the enrichment of these neo-gilded age Aristo Plutocrats, leaving almost nothing but near and actual serfdom for my children and their children, while a scorched, denuded, and impoverished earth cries from poor stewardship.
