I have never had the pleasure of meeting the Congresswoman and don’t expect I ever will.
Her courage and her husband’s devotion have touched me deeply nonetheless. I hope that we, as a nation, collectively pause to thank her for giving her life in service to her country. For she, as surely as any person in uniform, has been injured in the line of duty and impacted for the rest of her life by the terror of the mass shooting a little over one year ago.
Congresswoman Giffords was an extraordinary woman by all accounts prior to the tragic events of being shot while meeting with constituents in Arizona. She has announced that she will resign this week. Her decision is another example of her clarity of purpose.
“I’m getting better. Every day my spirit is high,” she said. “I have more work to do on my recovery. So to do what’s best for Arizona, I will step down this week.”
Godspeed, Gabrielle.

Best to focus on recovery, she will have a great career in public service in or out of government, I also think her husband would do a great job as well. I also respect that she takes the job seriously enough to know her current condition prevented her from making all the votes and being the best Congresswoman she can be, her constituents will certainly respect that and I definitely do.

Her near-assassination was a great tragedy and ended a promising career. I join all her well-wishers in hoping for the best possible outcome for her and her family.
At the risk of sounding crass, there’s a very good chance that a Republican will replace her. The “2nd Amendment Solution” seems to have been effective. Representative Gabrielle Giffords has been silenced.

She is young and will recover. Congresswoman Giffords will not and has not been silenced. The power of her recovery and convictions as she heals will dwarf the tragedy. Bad things happen to good people. Her decision is to be respected if not applauded.
Dems. will just have to fight harder and make a better case to keep the seat. Oh well, step up Arizona!

I hope she is recognized and the country rallies around and behind her and her family.
