The Massachusetts GOP is having an identity crisis and it needs to answer the simple question of freedom. Does the healthcare mandate eliminate liberty and freedom according to your conservative principles?
If it takes away your freedoms, then Gov. Mitt Romney took those freedoms away in Massachusetts, yet many within the party’s leadership propelled him to victory in New Hampshire. How can you support a candidate that took your freedoms away in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, according to your party’s principles?
The least the party should remain consistent. It is not as if the candidates are slim pickings. You have Ron Paul, Huntsman and Santorum all who have at least never endorsed the mandate, Gingrich also has endorsed the mandate back in the 1990s, so he can be left out.
To me, the Republican party is being extremely hypocritical. The GOP ran against Obamacare in 2010 with an emphasis on how the mandate takes away people’s freedoms, now it looks like they, especially the Massachusetts GOP are going to support Mitt Romney to run against President Obama.
