The SuperPAC that Stephen Colbert created and then handed off to Jon Stewart (so that Colbert could run for the presidency of the United States of South Carolina) continues to make political waves. Yesterday, Colbert interviewed the Supreme Court Justice who nearly prevented it from coming into existence: John Paul Stevens, the now-retired Justice who wrote the dissent in Citizens United.
Watch the whole thing – it’s an interesting interview, and at the end, Stevens manages one of the most successful zingers I’ve ever seen in an interview conducted by Colbert. đŸ˜€

What Colbert (and Stewart) are doing to hilariously highlight the ridiculous pretense that Super PACs are truly independent of campaigns is satire at its very best. And a genuine service to democracy in our country.
