For lying about “black ice”, trying to cover up the true nature of his little car accident, and for totaling a state car by not using it responsibly.
If he had come clean 100% from the get-go, this thing could maybe have been forgiven, but dragging it out, covering it up, and so forth- just not cool.
Not to mention his relationship with that corrupt clown from the Chelsea Housing Authority.
Tim Murray seemed like he had a bright political future, but I think he’s turning out to be something of a turkey. He should resign.
Please share widely!
Charley on the MTA says
He fell asleep at the wheel; wasn’t drunk, as far as anyone knows.
Jeez, settle down.

Only Republicans are bad guys. And never forget rule #2: all liberal democrats are inherently good. Sort of reminds me of my early days listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio–of course with his trusty pal Tonto at his side:):)

So Farnoff saus as an opening – “For lying about “black ice”, trying to cover up the true nature of his little car accident, and for totaling a state car by not using it responsibly.”
But – –
Don’t let facts get in the way.
Mark L. Bail says
Murray has damaged himself with this incident and his friendship with the Housing Authority guy in Chelsea. “I wasn’t drunk, I fell asleep at the wheel” is hardly a reassuring defense.
He was cited.

Don’t you get it? People don’t really want the facts because the facts are BORING! Man falls asleep at wheel, cracks up car, lives to tell it. Police say road was icy. man gets ticket for driving over the speed limit and will pay ticket….that wouldn’t even make the police blotter in my town!!!
Murray is a good man, far better than those who try to smear him with stupid demands for more answers to questions that have already been truthfully answered! Why the heck does anyone decent run for office anymore?
farnkoff says
And does everyone have such low standards of politicians that lies and coverups are now completely acceptable? You really think he forgot what happened? Like some kind of amnesia? Really?
It was a state car, he owed the state a truthful explanation for what happened, but tried to avoid offering one until the demands for the truth were overwhelming. Any other state employee who did such a thing would probably be fired- if not for the negligence then definitely for the dishonest accounts of the event.
hlpeary says
Anyone who has fallen asleep at the wheel and been in an accident can tell you that they awake when they are startled by an impact…you don’t even quite know what happened and how you got there…Murray told the truth as he could remember it after rolling over in the wreck, that he walked away is amazing. He is not the first person to fall asleep at the wheel, he won’t be the last. But it is not surprising at all that he can’t remember. The police assumed black ice as those were the road conditions that day. The State Police refused to break their policy of not releasing the black box info in any accident, not Murray.
Murray told the truth, you just wanted a different truth, didn’t you?
farnkoff says
But I don’t like bullshit. Maybe you’re right about his memory, though. To me, the story has not quite been credible. If he didn’t remember anything, why not just say that, though? Anyway, glad he’s going to pay for the car.

hlperry pretty much summed up the entire episode above. Non-story, other than tabloid.
This resign business is bizarre, care to explain yourself? (without the BS please)
farnkoff says
Plus, of course, the TBD details of his relationship with the Cheksea housing guy. He’s gotten pretty sketchy pretty fast. You a personal friend of his? As LG, can you say he’s been all that much more than a weird distraction lately?
marcus-graly says
I certainly won’t be voting for him in 2014 though, if he tries to do a “my turn” campaign for the corner office.
hlpeary says
He has done a great job and has more integrity and understanding of what cities and towns need from state government than anyone in the building where he works…including his boss. We could use a dozen more like him.

Speeding in the dark on an empty highway is bad decision (although, arguably, less so than speeding on a highway that’s crowded).
Not wearing your seat belt at any time while driving is bad decision.
Driving while you are so tired that you fall asleep at the wheel? Very bad decision.
So Murray made some pretty bad driving decisions. Maybe he’s a crummy driver- who knows?
But why does possibly being a crummy driver mean that he would automatically be a crummy governor, particularly when he has already demonstrated an ability to be an effective Lieutenant Governor?
Said another way, if YOU fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed YOUR car, would you deserve to lose YOUR job over it, regardless of your performance at work?
And the lying thing- if you’d been in a car accident which involved your car flipping over twice and burning, and moreover you may have actually been asleep when the accident occurred, would you remember every detail single detail of what happened and in what order?
Seriously- those of you looking to tear down Tim Murray should focus on the Chelsea Housing guy connection. I think you’ll have a lot more luck there.
hlpeary says
Imagine if every person in elected office who has ever driven over the speed limit or forgotten to buckle up were required to resign for making a bad decision on a given day….whoa! empty govt. buildings at all levels!
Imagine if every elected official were held accountable for every word of every statement they made or every answer they gave…hmmmm…where to begin? Obama getting us out of the middle east within 90 days of Inauguration? Should he resign for not meaning it? Steve Grossman told every mayor who would listen last year that he truly wanted to be Treasurer and had no interest in using it to run for Governor, should he resign for lying? Really?
Mark L. Bail says
agree with our Republican friends, this is a story and it’s not going to go away.
Two independent sources now say that the black box data does not indicate falling asleep at the wheel:
An accident reconstruction expert, Bruce McNally of New Hampshire, who reviewed the black box data says, “There is no indication that the driver fell asleep.”
“I don’t see evidence here of someone asleep,” said analyst James Verhasselt, who reviewed the data and discussed it with the Gazette on Wednesday. “I don’t see anything to support that theory.”
This story doesn’t add up.
