Here’s a weird one. The Boston Herald pretty much hearts Mitt Romney – after all, it offered a full-throated endorsement of his candidacy right before the Iowa caucuses. And the Globe has never shown Romney much love, seeing as how it endorsed John McCain in the 2008 GOP primaries and Jon Huntsman this time around.
And yet, and yet…
Those who have read Michael Calderone’s report on Romney press corps grumbles know that some embeds were told they wouldn’t have a seat on the campaign plane today, “which is logistically necessary in order to cover events held at locations that are several hours apart by car.” …
On the plane: reporters from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg. And, as of late last night, the Boston Globe’s Matt Viser, who was initially told that he would not have a spot on the plane.
Not on the plane: reporters from POLITICO, Huffington Post, BuzzFeed, and the Boston Herald.
Some outlets are noting the fact that Team Romney pretty much blew off the online outlets, in favor of the traditional media. But what really sticks out to me is the campaign’s bizarre choice to help out the Globe, and blow off the Herald.
Maybe Team Romney has completely written off Massachusetts as a lost cause anyway. Makes sense – there’s no way Obama doesn’t win here come November, so who really cares what the Boston press corps thinks. Still, you’d think loyalty would be worth something…
Oh right, we are dealing with Mitt Romney here. So, if you thought that, you thought wrong.
