I’m Kate Donaghue and I am running for re-election to the Democratic State Committee. I am not unopposed and I need votes on Tuesday, March 6. The district where I am running, ably represented by Senator Jamie Eldridge, includes Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Harvard, Hudson, Littleton, Marlborough, Maynard, Northborough (partial), Shirley, Southborough, Stow, Sudbury (partial), and Westborough.
Long time readers of BMG may know me. I’ve blogged on BMG since the early days and I’m proud of having user number 134! A few years ago, Sue Kennedy wrote, “Kate plays an important role here on BMG, always available to answer questions about arcane Democratic Party processes.”
As a DSC member, I take my role very seriously, working with the town and ward committees that I was elected to represent. I spend most of my free time volunteering for the Democratic Party, our candidates, issues and organizations.
Usually when I am here I am asking for help for other candidates. This time I am asking for help for me.
1) If you live in the district, please vote for me on Tuesday, March 6 on the presidential primary ballot. Please bring a friend. If you are not in the district, please ask a friend to vote for me.
2) If you are on facebook, please “like” my re-election page. Share the link with friends.
3) If you want to volunteer, please contact me at 508-404-8531 or KateDonaghue AT aol DOT com. I can use help, especially on Tuesday, March 6.
4) If you are so inclined, please send a donation. There are expenses associated with this campaign and with my work as a DSC member. Checks payable to Kate Donaghue Committee, 17 Gary Circle, Westborough, MA 01581.
Many thanks to all who are interested in supporting my candidacy.
On Sunday, just before I headed out for some door-to-door campaigning in Westborough, I got a phone call from a new volunteer in Marlborough.
He said, “Kate, just give me 24 hours notice and I’ll be wherever you need me to volunteer.”
“Great,” was my response. “We’ll meet tomorrow at 12:30 PM.”
I sent an e-mail to a few lists and announced that we would be collecting signatures for Elizabeth Warren’s campaign for U. S. Senate. I got a number of responses.
About 24 hours later there were seven of us collecting signatures on the streets of Marlborough. As an organizer, my motto is, “If you build it, they will come.”
We got a great response and the individual pairs of people were very pleased with their individual results. When we finished we counted up the signatures that we had gathered as a group. This is a technique that I have learned over the years that makes a difference. It really gives people the context and makes it clear that as a team working together we can make a difference.
I appreciate your kind words! Thanks for the front page position. Please ask friends and relatives in the MW district to vote for me on Tuesday, March 6. Kate
But you’re the number one argument that politics can still be powered by people, not just money. If the Mass. Democratic Party had three more of you, the Republican caucus in the State House would be down to a coupla people.
Please encourage people to vote for me!
Dearest Kate, I have not seen the latest opinion poll results on your race, but don’t be disappointed if you find yourself a serious underdog (wink). You have spent nearly all your FREE hours for the past umpteen years working for other candidates, and have forgotten about YOU! But seriously, if you don’t walk away with at least 75% of the vote I’d be very surprised. Just the same, all you Democratic Party troopers that are proudly going to the polls on March 6, please consider voting for the Obama-Donaghue ticket – as David indicates, Kate is one of the most valuable players in the DSC.
We miss you here in MA. You are very kind. But the problem is that 95 out of 100 voters have no idea of the kind of work that I have done. Without spending an inordinate amount of money for an unpaid office it is hard to penetrate a whole senate district. Thank you for your kind words. Please check your address book and send and e-mail to a friend or two in Acton, Ayer, Boxborough, Harvard, Hudson, Littleton, Marlborough, Maynard, Northborough (partial), Shirley, Southborough, Stow, Sudbury (partial), and Westborough.
Do state committee candidates get to indicate “candidate for re-election” on the ballot like public office incumbents do? I can easily see this as a default to incumbent race. Also, what percentage of voters both to mark this race at all? This seems primarily of interest to insiders and activists.
I spot checked a couple of towns from four years ago. When I have been unopposed about 70% have voted and 30% blanked. And yes I am listed as candidate for re-election. How goes your race?
I am running for a conference-elected seat and do have an opponent. I’ve been able to attend some of the caucuses in my district and plan to attend the committee meetings at which conference delegates are elected, as well as outreach to the committee members.
