The trucks came from Canada, with the blessing of the Canadian government. Native peoples and 350.org and Occupy Boston will be holding a candlelight vigil at 3 Copley Square, in front of the Canadian Embassy at 7:00 PM tonight. Consider yourselves invited.
You can just see the Oglala Sioux protesters trying to block these huge pipeline segments. The Sioux, including grandmother Debra White Plume, were arrested today, March 5, 2012. See coverage at: http://narcosphere.narconews.com/notebook/brenda-norrell/2012/03/lakotas-arrested-halting-keystone-xl-pipeline-trucks The story first broke on a climate change story on facebook by Occupy Boston, and I started fact-checking online.
See also: The blockade was reportedly at the village of Wanbli, Eagle Nest district. Those trying to blockade were arrested for “disorderly conduct.”
With more description and a closeup of the tiny trucks and blockaders, trying to stop these huge segments. See also coverage, including the local reservation radio station at: http://www.bsnorrell.blogspot.com/
In happier days, Debra protested with other Native Americans in front of the White House. Charlie is right. Collectively we are running out of time, and no amount of money will bring back what is being lost. My thanks to the Oglala Sioux for trying to stand up, and fight this stealthy move by Keystone; I will try to monitor and report on breaking developments.
As I said in the Virginia story – will we see THIS story in the mainstream media either?
