Scott Brown recently acknowledged his growing “woman problem,” enlisting Olympia Snowe and other Republicans to his “Women for Brown” at a big kick-off event last month. The Boston Herald headline at the time said it all: “Snowe: Brown’s not waging war on women.”
But it seems like every time he tries to undo the damage, he finds himself right back in hot water.
The latest development is that Scott Brown has began suggesting that Elizabeth Warren was not qualified to get her job at Harvard. Brown’s pushing of the “Native American” dustup, of course, goes against the word of Charles Fried, the former Reagan Solicitor General, who said about the issue: “It never came up in her interviews. She’s such a wonderful teacher and such an accomplished scholar [that] it just swamps any such thing.” The fact is, Warren’s ground breaking work in bankruptcy and research on the pressures facing families are why she was hired. Her teaching is also legendary. Even the most conservative students have praised her in the classroom.
But for Scott Brown, this follows a familiar pattern. After all, this is the same Senator that voted against Elena Kagan while claiming she didn’t have the experience needed for the Supreme Court — even after she served as our country’s Solicitor General as Dean of Harvard Law School.
This is also the same Senator who got himself in hot water a couple weeks back for claiming all he learned from the women in his family was ‘how to cook, how to sew, how to clean.’
And the same Senator that found himself in hot water just before that for sponsoring the Blunt-Brown Amendment, which would have threatened contraceptive funding for women.
The list goes on, but Brown can take solace that the election is still several months away. He would be smart to realize though that he has a real woman problem — and the sooner he stops his pattern of offensive actions and comments, the better for his chances in November.
on women. He just has a very, very, very conventional way of looking at things. One that doesn’t really recognize the fact that his wife probably spends little time cooking, sewing, and cleaning. There’s also a reason he’s kept from situations when he can ad lib.
His biggest problem with women is and will continue to be the (R) that comes after his name. He could survive some stupid statements, but women–especially Massachusetts women–know that he’ll be voting with the crazies when the time comes.
I agree that he has a “very, very, very conventional way of looking at things”. So conventional that he can’t believe a woman can actually be qualified to teach at Harvard (I guess that was before she became elitist). So conventional that he can’t believe a woman can actually be qualified to be a Supreme Court justice. So conventional that it can only be described as “neanderthal”.
The GOP is waging war against women (and blacks, and immigrants, and the gay and lesbian community, and so on). The Blunt-Brown Amendment WAS an assault on women, and was part of the national party’s war on women.
However we want to describe it, Scott Brown is enthusiastically playing his part in the GOP war on women — and pandering to Massachusetts voters who think that’s a good thing. We can only hope those voters are in the minority.
There’s a war being waged against the 99%, but we’re complicit.

Then there is the bizniz of pounding down a few to get a female reporter dancin’ in the back of the truck. Hm..
But when will Brown stop paricipating in a criminal cover-up by not coming forward and naming who molested him so the police can do their job and stop this stuff.
Unless…unless…it never happened at all. He was just sellin’ books.
