On Wednesday, May 30th, the Massachusetts State House will vote on the most promising set of election reforms to come to the floor in years…
Bill H.4120 would do four things to help improve democratic participation here in the Commonwealth.
- It lets you download, print, sign, and mail in your voter registration form (as you already can in 47 other states).
- It lets teenagers pre-register to vote at age 16 — making it more likely they will participate once they turn 18.
- It sets up random audits of paper ballots to ensure accurate election results.
- It updates the training for election officials so they will be better able to help every eligible citizen vote.

Hopefully, the legislature will move forward with this bill to increase voter participation and election accuracy.
After all, when voter participation is low, people like Scott Brown are able to win elections in this state!

Good news — the Mass. House voted 112 to 36 in favor of election reforms to help improve voter participation and election accuracy.
Now, it’s up to the Senate to act.
According to Avi Green, Co-Director of MassVOTE: “This is a big victory; if this bill is passed by the Senate and signed into law by the governor, it will be the most significant reform to strengthen the vote-counting and voter registration processes in Massachusetts in 20 years.”
Please encourage your State Senator to take action on this bill before the session ends in July.
