There on page one of the Sunday Boston Globe were not one but two pictures of Scott Brown and copy that sounds like a transcript straight out of his TV commercials.
I turn to the jump-page and see a two-page spread with more photos for a total of not one, not two, not three, four or five but six — SIX –6–pictures of Scott Brown. And a fingers-down-your-throat 2763-word throat puff piece about what a good father and husband he is. Wow.
What has become of The Boston Globe, never a great newspaper, but never this at level of pure rot? The guys at the Herald must be busting a gut while the Globe carries their water, all for Scott Brown.
Since the Globe has no ombuds or public reader, I’ll send my comments to the Times, their corporate parent, because the Globe’s coverage of this campaign — including maybe 30 articles on Warren’s heritage but the lightest touch on Brown’s fabrications — reeks of a connnection or some other reason for bias.
Even if they endorse Warren, it won’t matter because their coverge will have so predisposed readers toward Brown, kings and queens notwithstanding, that no one will care.
Anyone know of any reason why this is happening on Morrissey Blvd?
Here’s a quote to chew on:
Martin Baron, editor, The Boston Globe, says the newspaper has a key role because “people need to know the facts because we ask them to be citizens.” To succeed, Baron says, newspapers need to continue “to provide value … tell [people] clearly what is going on in this community … and hold powerful interests accountable. And our intent is to continue to do that.” http://whoneedsnewspapers.org/np_interviews.php?npId=matbg&ivId=matbg02
Mr. Baron, when does that begin?
