Because reporting on candidate’s fundraising and poll results are the easiest stories to write, we are served up almost daily portions of both. Our mailboxes both snail and internet are loaded with pleas for contributions from near and far. We are asked to help save America from the plague approaching ( ie: the opponent, fill in the blank). But, the real money, the money that results in the almost obscene totals being amassed for the Presidential and Congressional races comes from those who are playing in a high stakes auction with the complicity of politicians on both sides of the aisle. Bill Moyers has been sounding the alarm to no avail. This week Congress voted not once, but twice to kill any effort to make this auction transparent.

The high rollers figured out years ago that they need not pick sides and take a chance of losing. It is more efficient to cover both sides of the bet and leave no doubt. The iron grip (money) of the special interests and their lobbyists has corrupted both parties…it’s not just Super PACs that are stealing democracy right out from under our noses…it’s the “legal” fundraising done by candidates and political parties, as well.
