Republican Scott Brown stumbled through yet another week of lowlights.
· Republican Scott Brown made opposition to health care reform a centerpiece of his special election campaign in 2009-2010, which is why the Supreme Court’s decision on health care reform this week did Brown no favors. So Brown feverishly released statements critical of health care reform. Unfortunately for Massachusetts residents, Brown’s statements were clearly misleading.
· Republican Scott Brown has been extremely critical of the medical device tax included as part of health care reform, which is why it was particularly noteworthy to read this must-read letter to the editor of the Boston Globe from the President of a Massachusetts-based medical device firm calling Brown out for “playing politics.”
· Republican Scott Brown continued to receive lousy press for his “secret meetings with Kings and Queens” falsehood – and misleading explanation thereof – and that lousy press was helpfully compiled into this YouTube video.
· Desperate to avoid association with a highly unpopular national Republican Party, Republican Scott Brown couldn’t say for certain whether or not he was planning on attending the Republican National Convention’s coronation of Mitt Romney, or for how long he’d be there. Finally, Brown settled on attending, but without a speaking role to draw more attention to him.
· Speaking of Republican Scott Brown’s questionable scheduling, he’s still ducking debates! After ducking the Kennedy Institute Debate and the Worcester Debate, he added ducking the South Coast Debate to his record. Again, no clear explanation was given.
· Meanwhile, the only thing that anybody remembers from Republican Scott Brown’s appearance this past week on conservative Dan Rea’s AM talk radio show is that Brown joined his far-right-wing colleagues, including Jim Inhofe and Jim DeMint, in an unprecedented political attack against the U.S. Attorney General.

It is even more ironic since yesterday the former RSC, Jennifer Nassour, on Channel 5’s OTR(On The Record) criticized Elizabeth Warren who introduced Pres Obama in Boston. Ms Nassour stated Prof Warren did not tarry long enough on the stage to get the full effect of Obama’s support. She called it a “rookie mistake.” When asked why Scott Brown was not going to speak at the RNC she said, “Well he is running in Massachusetts, not the US.” As far as I know a Senator not only represents his state but also takes votes that affect the whole nation. It was a delightfully lame excuse by the former head of the Mass Repubs. It is just another example that there is no sense of their duty to represent all in the state as well as the whole US. Not only do they shun public forums but narrow their constituency.
She should just stop collecting donor’s money (in state or out of state) and phone it in. Brown couldn’t possibly win at this point. Enjoy the summer EW, head over to Nantucket for a few weeks, maybe hang out the Senior Senator…
then argue her to pull a Martha Coakley. Methinks she should avoid taking the resident republican’s advice on how to win the election, even if he’ll admit she’s got a great chance.
She’s a Democrat running in MA, right away she’s the favorite. Add all these stories you guys post “everyday” about kings, queens, Brown hating women… and of course EW has a good chance.
But maybe, you echo chamber here about Scott Borwn is similar to the echo chamber heard from Democrats about another Scott… Scott Walker. They had the recall, the energy, the unions, the unions flying in from all over the country, the media, the polls… and Scott Walker won, wasn’t even close.
he just hates their uterus. Or at least thinks their employer should have free reign to dictate what kind of care and treatment women can have regarding said organ.
Echo chamber? The lefty blogosphere is a tiny fly on the wall next to right wing radio and right wing tabloids across the country. Dan Rhea and Scott Brown “debating” no one on the air…. that’s an echo chamber.
Hmm… having the money to outspend the other guy 10-1 or having a few unions on your side? I wonder which is the bigger advantage?
Don’t pretend Scott Walker was somehow at a disadvantage in that race. No incumbent ever is…. including Scott Brown.
Thankfully, unlike in Wisconsin, where the Democrats had a lousy candidate, we have a great one…. and our party is actually ready to take on the Wall St. interests propping up the Republican who would take a crow bar to the middle class when and if Wall St. asks.
and he Globe’s profile of him and the family was a real high point.
Progressmass would be waiving the pom-poms and tooting the horns, asking for full disclosure. But since Holder is a Democrat, just like John Tierney (Sgt. Schultz of the delegation) they circle the wagons (no offense Elizabeth Warren) and could care less if the truth comes out, even if a border agent is dead, and won’t be celebrating the 4th of July like progressmass.
There are reports now that instead of selling weapons to the cartel they were trying to stop it. However courtesy of the NRA the sellers were allowed to sell and did. The monitoring went on from there. We have met he enemy, as Pogo says, and it is us.
And this issue will go away. Right?
I realize the Administration wants everyone to move along and you probably support them 110%, but the sellers in some instances were actually planning to not complete the sales based on current criteria and instead were told by the ATF to look the other way and complete the sale. This has nothing to do with the NRA, which for the most part is not on board with selling guns to criminals.
The issue here is whether it was an operation begun only by the AZ office, and whether Washington up to including the AG knew about it and did nothing, or encouraged it, or something else.
The American people probably would like to know how their government was involved in this poorly run operation. If there is nothing, why not release the documents? Holding out only makes it seem like they are hiding something.
and Bush’s nominees to head ATF. Even if all you said were true – which it seems unlikely – the fact that the NRA have prevented AFT from having a confirmed head should give them some responsibility for it being a less than functional organization.
Not to mention, this effort began before Obama even became President. The fact that Issa himself has admitted that he has no proof of ANY wrong doing by Holder.
As to the suggestion that >just> releasing what was asked for would end this ignored that they already complied with earlier request, look at history. Did Obama releasing his long form end those RW claims? Did Senator Kerry releasing all his Navy records to the Boston Globe and two other papers end that? The fact is NO amount of proof EVER ends a Republican claim of this sort.
then it’s really pointless for anyone in the Administration to answer to Congress on anything. Nice to know you have zero faith in our democratic institutions.
The program as designed in theory should have enabled the ATF to catch the bad guys, so the Bush Administration starting it is not the issue.
I think what Congress is after is determining whether there was gross incompetence in the program, and whether that incompetence was created, known or covered up by Holder & crew.
So you’re blaming the NRA? Could be, or it could just be racism. I think I saw MSBNC pitch that idea the other evening.
a lot of documents – and each time they did, they asked for more. I certainly do not equate faith in Issa’s intentions with faith in Democratic institutions.
Do you think that an organization lacking a confirmed head for about a decade would not impair its performance? If there was “gross negligence” it is most likely at the agency level> There is NO evidence from anyone that Holder covered up anything. One might think that calling in the ATF people and questioning them on what they did and what they conveyed to anyone in the Justice Department might be a reasonable thing to do. Apparently, that is not what Issa thinks – which leads me to think that this is a witch hunt – not a serious investigation to get to the truth.
I don’t think it is racism – I think it is to “create” a scandal for an administration that really does not have any.
are you going to mention John Tierney in every post? Every other? Inquiring minds want to know, so we can be prepared for the exact level of shrillness to expect before we come onto the site.
a former car thief and suspected arsonist is chairing the house ethics committee? No trouble to know the republicans control the house.
