On primary night I was in Charlotte, listening to President Barack Obama accept the nomination. Down in Charlotte there were many discussions.
Results are here. Things that jumped out at me were that generally people who worked hard, talked to voters and had a message did better. Obviously there are many factors that people can’t control. Geography always plays a role.
Is there anyone who is familiar with a particular race who wants to share your thoughts? Who won who should have lost? Who lost who should have won?
Please share widely!
I would have predicted Dolan to win 3MI, Manzi to win 1ES, Eppley in the 5th GCD, and Torrisi over DiZoglio.
Incumbent state rep. Kevin Aguiar lost by 7 votes in his primary (at present).
Second-time candidate Roger Brunelle won his by 11 (ditto).
Oh, and people just don’t care about Governor’s Council. Witness the 34-34-33 result in district 1. People basically chose at random, even though the incumbent is a graceless incompetent.
Pretty hard to be incompetent at a bimonthly job where your a human rubber stamp.
And making Register of Deeds, Register of Probate and Clerk of Courts non-elected civil service positions.
No one cares about these races and everyone just votes based on geography, if they don’t know the candidates, and personality, if they do.
The problem is these issues are so obscure its hard to get people
mobilized to change these inefficiencies. But I totally agree and think
anything court related-down to the DA should
be appointed and de-politicized.
…I’m pretty sure it’s weekly, but more importantly the GC isn’t necessarily a rubber stamp and you can easily be incompetent if you don’t do your due diligence vetting nominees.
and what I learned is that if you are losing a state senator with almost three decades of seniority from your district and city (Peabody) you best not have a fractured political culture. I also learned that people do not care about the GC. That being said you can in fact be incompetent on the Council. If you don’t believe me just get a hold of Mary Ellen Manning’s attendance record for that one day a week job. WOW is all I have to say.
I actually like what I know about Eileen Duff but I was surprised she won and even more surprised Eppley finished behind Bumiller. I guess the Lynn vote came out strong for Bumiller and Duff had “dead cars” and people at polling places through out the 2nd Essex district so maybe people who don’t car just saw her signs and voted for her. Was hoping my canvass would net David more votes than it did but that’s life I guess.
John Slattery and David Eppley are both great guys. Not sure if Slattery would try again but Eppley could make a run for city council in Salem as he seems to have good relationship with future Senator Lovely et al.
Next up for me is attempting to help my local Democratic Town Committee get a bit more active and figuring out if I want to use my volunteering time on behalf of Tierney or Warren.
Both Roger Brunelle and Adam Bond have filed for recounts in targeted parts of the 12th Bristol District. As the counts stand now it appears Brunelle has a 14 vote lead.
