I know this would be a HUGE front paged headline post on BMG if Geortge Bush was running for reelection, but since this world rioting could be linked to Obama it’s cricket’s chirping on BMG!
Now I know you’re thinking “IS that Michelle Obama’s fast food protesting team… but it’s not. We are having a big problem in the arab world as protesters, chanting “Death to Americans…” are rioting, burning and the Arab nations are not doing a lot to stop it.
What has happened to all the work Obama did to bring these countries back to the US on friendly terms? Did Obama just get taken and US tax payers get taken for billions on US green backs just so we could get nostalgic scenes from Jimmy Carter’s Presidency?
I suspect that this excuse about the anti-Muslim movie is total bullshite! No more than riots after sporting events being related to the actual win (or loss in Vancouver’s case). This is a giant fiasco for Obama and I know many of you are holding your breadth and hoping your co-conspirators in the MSM can keep the lid on this, but if the chaos continues, they will not be able to and Americans will see a failed American policy. Egypt, Lebanon, Tunisia, Libya… The only happy people about this are Syria and Iran since the US’s attention has been redirected so Assad can keep killing hundreds and thousands of his people.
I’m sure Obama is all over this conflict, in between campaign stops. He spent an hour with the US Olympians today, I guess they’re more important than meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu since the “Olympian situation” could escalate into a war in the mideast.
We need an energy policy that gets us out of the Middle East once and for all!

…and not reflective of the Libyan people or government. Other less violent demonstrations do seem to be connected to this awful film, which is what the demonstrators themselves have said. You’re worse than Romney if you imply this is somehow Obama’s fault. Romney didn’t like what he thought was the embassy’s response, but even he didn’t blame the President for the attack. This diary was a rather incoherent attempt to make something stick.

I think these other countries are simply jumping on the burn, riot and scream about killing Americans since it’s a cool thing for Arabs in these countries to do. If that film was produced in France, they would still riot and yell about America. They hate us (they hate you too and your faith alone would make you a target for death which to me is such a fucked up religion). I’m a Christian and even the Christians who believe non-Christians are going to hell, they still don’t believe they should “Die!”.
BTW, let’s go find the Piss Christ painting and how terrible this was to so many Christians. Did we kill anyone over it? Riot? Burning cars, buildings.
Are the very people who defended this type of painting now condemning the anti-muslim movie? When the Piss Christ controversy was in full swing, the paintings in question could be seen on TV… but most of our MSM are too afraid to post anti-Muslim movies or paintings (remember the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy). Why do we have this double standard for anti-Muslim vs. anti-other religions?
PS I don’t blame Obama for the riot, the killing or the riots in these other countries. What I do say is we have had a terrible foreign policy which was suppose to foster warm relations with these countries, we give them money, we bend over backwards for them and when the stupidest event occurs (if it was this asinine movie…), these countries revolt and riot AND the security forces of the countries (Egypt) are slow to defend our people. Unacceptable!

Christopher above is offering things that have been kicking around in some media reports. This was, after all, an obscure film produced months ago. Why now? Maybe because it’s the Sept. 11 anniversary?
I got to thinking why Christians in, say, Europe don’t riot in response to anti-Christian blasphemy. Then, I remembered. Blasphemy used to be criminal in Europe. Doing it was a big deal. In much of the Muslim world today, citizens expect blasphemy to be treated as a crime. Think Pakistan, for example. Pakistanis are by and large fairly reasonable as a religious people go, but even they have federal sanctions against blasphemy. Our First Amendment world must be so foreign to them, it must be unbelievable and incomprehensible.

You’ll excuse me for raising this because I know, John, that this is an immense cause of hurt and sadness for you. I know how deeply you cherished him and his Presidency. Every day you pick a flower and place it next to the photograph you keep in that special place. I ask your forgiveness in advance.
The Bush Administration had the preposterously stupid idea that they could command the loyalty and respect of Muslims internationally by an exercise of force. Bush, on the eve of the Iraqi intervention, didn’t even know about the difference between Sunnis and Shiites. So there was a big dollop of ignorance thrown in too. It was as if the Administration’s goal were to make us more enemies in the Muslim world. And, no, we cannot send troops to Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, Yemen, and Malaysia, but the neo-con buffoons somehow imagine we can make it all better with enough military intervention.
So yeah, we were mean to him. He set out to make a bad situation worse and succeeded admirably. Obama has done no such thing.

Are you saying that we should have somehow magically stopped the Arab Spring so that we would have repressive but relatively predictable dictators like Qaddafi? Are you saying that we should be invading Iran and/or Syria?
Yes, the riots in reaction to this offensive, lame you-tube video has been insane, but I don’t know what you think Obama could have done to prevent the riots. Given how poorly Romney has performed so far in his few forays into foreign policy, do you really want to stake his campaign on how he and Obama respond to Arab unrest rather than on the Economy?
Anyway, there you go again with more attacks on Obama instead of finding something positive to say about Romney. It is pretty sad, really.
But I do totally agree that we need an energy policy that reduces our dependency on oil, but that means we have to be looking at greatly expanding the generation of renewable energy. I just don’t see Romney and the Republicans doing that given how much money they take from the oil/gas/coal industries.
johnd says
where we (and so many others in both parties) agree, we still can’t get it fixed. Energy dependence has multiple reasons for it to be one of our top concerns such as (trade deficit, concern over political conditions in many other countries, domestic employment…). Why can’t we fix it? Renewables is part of it for sure. Please let the blame game begin…
HR's Kevin says
Republicans in Congress refuse to work with Democrats and Obama. They have stated outright that they are pursuing a policy of obstruction and non-cooperation in order to sabotage Obama’s presidency and gain it for themselves. You know this is true.
Republicans fell all over themselves to heap blame on Obama for the Solyndra mess and never thought to ask whether we should be doing something to counter China’s strategy of subsidizing solar cell and wind power production rather than just lying down and letting them take over the entire market to supply renewable energy equipment.
And I am still not hearing anything positive about Romney from you.

Wow, how incoherent a posting?
Where can I learn more about Bizarro Earth and the Republican Party?
I am like so totally going to vote Republican this year. Like totally.
